(5) Indiana vs (12) Chattanooga - 3/17 7:10EST on CBS (Discussion)

Recommended Posts

1. The Mocs have some solid wins. The best way to figure out how good a team from a lesser-known league? Look at the nonconference schedule. Chattanooga has the look of a team that could cause some problems in the NCAA Tournament. The Mocs beat Illinois, Georgia and Dayton, all on the road. Dayton is a 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament, while Georgia was believed to at least be in the conversation for an at-large bid.

2. They are a veteran group. Chattanooga played eight guys in its conference title game - five of them were juniors and three seniors. The Mocs are one of the 20 most experienced teams in college basketball. Their two key guys, 6-foot-5 junior Tre' McLean (12.3 points, 6.4 rebounds a game) and 6-10 junior Justin Tuoyo (11.1 points, five rebounds), have a ton of help. The other six primary rotation guys average six or more points a game, including guards Greg Pryor (41 made 3-pointers) and Eric Robertson (40.4 percent from 3).

3. McCall's a rookie. Chattanooga's 34-year-old head coach is in his first year as the leader of a program. He spent two seasons as a director of basketball operations at Florida under Billy Donovan before taking an assistant job at Florida Atlantic from 2008-11. He returned to Donovan's staff from 2011-15 before getting his first head gig. He is considered a hot young coaching prospect in the college ranks.

4. How do they play? What Chattanooga does best is play defense. The Mocs forced turnovers on 20.3 percent of their opponents' possessions. They also ranked 24th in the nation in block percentage and 31st nationally in steal percentage. Their opponents take an average of 18.2 seconds per possession, which is a huge factor in the Mocs ranking 265th out of 351 Division I teams in tempo.

I won money tonight!! After UK won and our loss to Michigan I called a buddy and told him I bet the committee sets IU vs UK in the second round. It seems to happen every year were both close in rankings. Its a ratings galore game and I know hard to believe(sarcasm) the NCAA try to make some extra money on matchups like these. I really thought we would be the 4 them 5 though. We deserved a 3-4 seed IMO no doubt. Michigan State deserved a 1 and Texas A&M a 3? C'mon!! Can't wait for Thursday!! Hope this team prepares for Chattanooga and not UK Thursday though.

I don't get how the selection committee can swear they don't set matchups on purpose... No reason either us or UK shouldn't have been in the South with the potential to play in Louisville, other than to purposely set up this matchup...

It actually wasn't set up 4 years ago (S-curve proved it), and at the time, I always laughed when people would say they chose matchups they knew people wanted to see. But after this, I've changed my mind. This was all about dem ratings.

And it's not just us and UK.  Look at possible texas, VCU or Villinova, Temple matchups!

Just glad to see that Academic fraud university, with fake non-existent classes for years with multiple coaches, gets a number one seed.
It is amazing how the media does not even say one word about this huge scandel anymore.
Apprently the transgressions of their non-student athletes, professors and coaches are less egregious than major violations like phone calls and bumper stickers. Really do not get this.

You really can't be that surprised!  Just wait till Ole Roy retires, then they might get the hammer!

Actually I am surprised. I thought University of No Classes (UNC) was going to get hammered this past summer.
