(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Recommended Posts

Final Four favorites? No way. But a rotation that included Romeo, Morgan, Smith, Hunter,  a successful big whether it be Race, Jake, DeRon, or Moore, a successful guard whether it be Phinissee, Green, or Durham, and a high-end grad transfer or two makes us Final Four 'consideration-ish'.

Forgetting Damezi Anderson...he's going to have a huge impact for us next year. He's a player that can create his own shot, score with ease, and a great shooter. We lack each one of those with this team right now. He's gonna be an immediate impact guy and if he's playing along side Romeo with Phinisee running the show. We're gonna have one of the best backcourts in the B1G.

Even excellent freshmen worry me in terms of how much they can contribute early in their career. As has been mentioned, most struggle defensively and with the speed of the game. UK, who makes a living getting top talent every year, has only been truly outstanding when they have had two and three year guys playing major roles. Freshmen have no idea how hard they have to play at the high major level. And, unlike high school, they can't take plays off. Given out situation, freshmen will have to play next year, and in some cases play major roles. I just hope we don't set the expectation too high and give them a chance to grow and develop their game. I think, given some time, they will be very good.

Well then his ranking is off because usually guys ranked where he is aren't instant impact players. He should be ranked top 50 if what you say is true.

So because a group of people put a number next to his name above 50, he can't be an instant impact? He is a shooter. Rankings mean NOTHING

Columbus East at New Albany tonight. I think we’re gonna see Romeo just raise hell this last part of the season

East is an odd team. I’ve seen them play so well, and play like Boys Club C-team. No real leader other than Drew Johnson but he can be as much as a liability as an asset.

Rankings mean a lot. But to the point, can a lower rated player come in and have an impact or play above said ranking? Of course.

That's more of what I mean. I shouldn't have said they mean nothing, but they are just numbers. Nobody knows how they will perform at the next level. Stupid to say this guy is ranked below 50, so he won't be of immediate impact.

Especially since we are kind of depending on Phinisee to make an impact.

Trey Burke is my favorite example of this btw

It baffles me when people say rankings don’t matter. You’ve got to be able to recruit high level players to win at a high level

You do. But that has nothing to do with an individual player out performing his "ranking".

Kelan Martin was ranked 140th

Shelvin Mack was 290th

Kamar Baldwin ranked 155

Morgan, OG. All 4 ranked lower than Anderson and all had definite impacts as FR. Don't tell me about OG and Morgans avgs as FR.. they were big time impactful. Anderson can be either of those impact wise, it'd be huge.

Damezi will make an impact. Every one of those guys will make an impact. I trust in Archie as a coach to get the best out of them. Those kids are winners too. They know what it takes. I’m completely comfortable with those guys contributing next season

Yep.  We'll know that recruiting is really rolling when the state's best regularly commit, and early, to play in Bloomington.

Blackmon, Lyles, Hartman and Davis all committed very early.

No but this delusion that these freshmen are going to have this instant impact gets played out every recruiting class. It rarely pans out except for the top 20 guys. Even Victor and og had marginal first years. They were not instant impact
