mdn82 Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I don’t think Romeo is trying to cash in before college either. His family isn’t poor and he will be on campus one season. No reason to risk it imo.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote

More money, more agents, more shoe companies, more of everything. Cars, giveaways, jewelry, Giftcards to local stores, etc. and then the big 6 figure payoffs for 5 stars. If kids know about having 100k to 200k available to go to certain schools why would you not take that. Very, very few have been busted before this FBI probe. The risk is low. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appI apologize but I just don’t feel it is this widespread. We are talking maybe a handful or two of kids per year. Is that really killing IU’s chances? I agree those are the types of items passing hands for those kids. But I think we greatly vary on scope. Even if we were aloud to pay a kid legit $250k to come here you would always have a few coaches willing to pay $500k. Getting upset over that fact that there are those types out there doesn’t change anything. The bar will always be changing in regards to that subject. Bottom line is are you ok with being dirty. It really isn’t a convo of everyone is doing it. Even if we all could there would be someone out there raising the bar.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app barrettballer 1 Quote

I want an even playing field. I genuinely think Duke, Arizona, Syracuse, KU, UK, UL, UCLA, Oregon and lots of wannabes are cheating. Or whatever you want to call it. I think it's widespread enough that most insiders don't even feel like they are cheating. Maybe we offer the same things, idk, but those that follow recruiting know we get beat out "buy" higher bidders often. The list of shady guys we recruited that went to shady schools is very long. I'd love to know what Splading got. What Goodluck got. What Lyles got. What Lyle got. What Wilkes got. What Zimmerman got. What Maker was going to get. What Preston got. What Bruce Brown got. Etc, etc, etc. I just want an even playing field is all. We are not good at basketball at Indiana under the current recruiting climate no matter who coaches us. The most sure way to get there is talent. I don't want thugs, or bad guys. But not all guys accepting money are bad guys. They feel they deserve it. I think the rankings make up a market value type system. Just thinking out loud. Indiana has a Million dollar a year recruiting budget. If our average class is 3 or 4, a payout of 100-200k per player would save us money. LOL. I'm kidding here but my point is, big money is changing hands and coaches and kids are getting a piece of it. mdn82 Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I get that, but no matter what system is in place people will go above it to attempt to get an advantage. I don’t think it’s a system problem as much as a bad Apple plus stress type of thing. High stress employment will cause people to work in areas they normally wouldn’t. I don’t think it’s just coaches that set up this landscape it’s boosters too. It’s shoe companies that boosters reach out to. There are many things. The problem is there needs to be a person in charge with authority that can punish much like the NFL and MLB is set up. That would change a lot.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners HoosierAloha and Class of '66 Old Fart 2 Quote

Ajwhitis Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 This recruitment is like the coaching search, it was fun till people got our hopes up just to find out what they were preaching wasn't true. I'm just ready for it to be over, whether I like the result or not. HoosierDYT, cljones1979 and MikeRoberts 3 Quote

Programs cheat because they don't want to be left behind. They don't want to be the only school who isn't trying to get ahead. JMO MikeRoberts 1 Quote
HoosierAloha Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 I think very few 5* recruits are completely clean. How dirty it gets depends on the recruit and his people. Romeo is good at basketball and that hasn't changed. He won't be the savior but could go a long way in having a solid tourney team next season.
