I know this wont be a popular post but here we go anyway.Could it be that our coaches super hyperactive personality is grating and hard to get around for some folks. We have the facility's,tradition and the greatest state in the union for high school hoops.Butler gets instate kids,Purdue and Notre Dame likewise. Its puzzling to me .I know Crean works his ass off and is a good man but is he really likable?

Would be for me.

The Indiana basketball brand is still known around the world. I've told people in from Indiana or graduated from IU and most of the time I get "oh Indiana basketball" as a response. There's been some casual basketball fans that I could talk in depth with over the last handful of years.

The Hulls, Watford, Oladipo, Zeller, and Yogi's have helped build a newer image of Indiana. However, that's a short list compared to teams that have been doing that for awhile. IU needs to continue to put the Oladipo's and Williams' in the league along with the higher ranked recruits like Zeller and Vonleh.

If Bryant and OG both land in the lottery this coming draft that can only improve the image of the Indiana brand and getting players to the league. Vic signing a big contract helps too.

It's not happening as quick or consistent enough for some of us but the program is moving in the right direction. The 2017 class is solid with several players looking like they'll contribute for several years. We just need those headliners that will put us over the top.

The recruiting game is probably a lot dirtier than many of us could imagine. I don't want IU to get into something that could bring down the program or tarnish the brand. The UNCs, Cuses, and Louisvilles might have been consistent winners recently but I don't want to have to defend a program that downright cheats to win. No thanks.

I agree on this too, but may have a bit of a different take on it though. I agree that Indiana isn't "cool" nationally or with recruits, but I actually think Crean has raised the cool-factor of IU the last 4-6 years. I haven't lived in Indiana since 1992, and being on the East Coast all that time, I can tell you that people really did not see Indiana as cool the last several years of Knight's tenure and through Davis' regime. During those years IU was the team that wore short shorts, had the crazy coach, and was slow to evolve.

I actually think that with guys like VO, Troy, Yogi, Sheehey, Zeller, Watford and others, and with upgraded facilities and some other bells & whistles Crean has added, I really think the "cool factor" has gone up. It's just that it was SOOOOO low to begin with.

Agree. Crean isn't going anywhere anytime soon but when and if he does, he has made the job MUCH more attractive. I'll always appreciate him bc of this, regardless of whether or not he has the ability to take us to our true ceiling.

If "doing it the right way" is holding us back, then I want to be held back. I don't want to stoop to the level of those programs. I'll take the 3's, 4's and occasional 5's with a CLEAN program any day.

So....where does IU go from here?

Rhetorical question?

Beatty and Preston are next on the wish list. TBD after that.

Seems realistic odds on the one we don't need as much. As far a talented bigger player, IDK. Even though statistically we have ~25% chance with Preston, it's a long shot.

What's the scoop?

Ha just restarting a conversation that I imagine has been ongoing but didn't see it at first glance in the thread.

We could contact Purdue...... They've been scrapping the bottom of the barrel for a while this recruiting season. They could give us a few leads.

It's weird...I really haven't seen it discussed anywhere yet. Just a few random names thrown out, but I wonder if we just wait for Preston in the spring? I don't see the staff not recruiting all winter though, so I would assume some names start popping up soon.

Feel like we would be better off getting in on some high 4 stars in 18

Seems like everyone has forgotten about the grad transfer route. There are quite a few instant impact grad transfers now being available each year, and if we can offer playing time we'd be a big name to look at. This recruiting class isn't necessarily going to be all freshmen.

I feel like that team is loaded with solid players. Our 2017 squad needs a star and I don't think we can get that with a grad transfer
