2017 IUBB recruiting

Recommended Posts

Why can't I see your posts without quoting?! Is this still being worked on?

I agree, landing Wilkes should add enough to keep the 2017-208 team on a similar level of talent as 2016-2017. However, depending on who leaves there could be a significant drop. This is just going by expected level of production/impact.

JBJ--CuJo
CuJo sees increases minutes and contributes better defensively but doesn't score as much

CuJo--Durham
Durham sees spot minutes as a freshman

Hartman--Smith
Lose leadership with Hartman gone but gain athleticism and defense with Smith

OG--Wilkes
Lose a great all around talent and replace with talent

Bryant--Davis
Lose a post presence in Bryant that looks to dominate the B1G and replace with a serviceable big

Davis--Moore
David gets promoted to starter and Moore comes in as a stretch four

I would feel a lot more comfortable seeing another big to at least back up DD. If Crean can swoop in and land a top notch big in the spring even better.

The Bryant-Davis thing could end up a wash.Every thing Ive seen on Davis says he's an excellent defensive player and shot blocker.Thats not really Bryants strength or at least wasnt his freshman campaign although he made great strides.

Back on this thought. IF we get Waters. #5 scholarship goes to Wilkes or Preston if we are lucky.

The funny thing here.......how many would rather Preston in this scenario?

If we miss Wilkes and Preston, do we even pursue a 5th commit?

If we miss both Wilkes and Preston, I think that's where we go for a 5-star big that is eyeing a spring decision like Pap was saying the other day. IIRC, Pap was basically saying that we may have a shot at a guy like Bamba if we have all season to focus all of our resources on him.

Interesting tidbit from Illinois site regarding Jalen Coleman Lands.

But as JCL's Uncle said it all worked out and they are happy.

Crazy the things that happen behind closed doors that we'll never hear about. At least not until years later

Or crazy the things people say on internet websites and pass it along as the truth. For me I would need a little more factual proof then a poster on an Illinois fan site saying that was the case.

Agree.

I don't think there is anything wrong with slow playing a recruit though. It's the nature of the business. I think everyone does it.

For example, I know Vijay Blackmon tried to commit when we offered and it went much the same way. Had we accepted that one early it would of burned us.

That's always the catch 22 to me. How to handle those early offers. You want to be early involved but if you offer with a contingency it gets dicey.

Shai Alexander, originally committed to the Florida Gators, will be reopening his recruitment.

6’5 point guard of Hamilton Heights will be taking visits over the next couple of weeks. He is expected to sign in the fall period.

Alexander is looking to do two or three more visits to explore his options, and there will be no shortage of them.

At 6’5 and with great length, size for position is a big plus to go with his ball handling skills and ability to create offense for himself and teammates.

The Hamilton, Ontario product is fresh off a summer that saw him take in senior national team experience with Team Canada, participating in the NIke Basketball Academy, while also excelling with UPlay Canada on the club circuit.

Shai also participated in the Basketball without Borders camp, earlier in 2016. Alexander is North Pole Hoops’ #2-ranked Canadian in the class of 2017, behind cousin Nickeil Alexander-Walker.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us try to get in this recruitment. He's not as tall as Wilkes but is another option on the wing for us. Either way it could impact others like you said shouldn't take more than a few days to find out.

He won't want to come here if Waters commits

Id rather have Waters tbh.

I would as well. I've seen he likes the ball in his hands but has said he wants to play on the wing. Coaches say a transition to PG would be best for his future though as we could've guessed 6'5 isn't tall enough in the NBA for the Greek Freak, Kawhi & Brons of the world.

Just thinking out loud.

If no Wilkes or no Preston do we have a realistic chance with any other top 100?

It seems we don't really have back up plans in place.
I'm sure we do but none of the other top 100s are considered indiana leans.

Bowen, Diallo, Bamba and others we have been semi associated with seem like pipe dreams.

If we miss on Wilkes AND Preston our recruiting class on paper is super weak to be replacing 2 maybe 3 NBA talents.

I wonder if panic is setting in?
