Popular Post akinnaird24 Posted December 10, 2017 Popular Post Posted December 10, 2017 The commit I was most impressed with today was Rob Phinisee. It was the first time I've seen him play in person, but I came away feeling he has the chance to come in and play from day 1. He was very smart with the ball in terms of finding the open guy and also got to the rim at will. Very impressed.Jerome Hunter and Damezi Anderson both started somewhat slow with foul trouble, but they finished the game off nicely other than Jerome being ejected after his 2nd tech. Damezi hit some big time 3's, including one with a defender in his grill where I looked at Matt Painter after and he said "Wow!" The first game I saw today was CG vs. HSE. TJD didn't take a single jumper from what I remember, so definitely needs to develop an outside game. Majak is pretty raw on both sides.Overall, Romeo was above and beyond the best player of all the games. Expected this, but he lit it up on offense, and he also played great D on Brooks. We will be alright regardless, but I want Romeo at IU VERY badly. HoosierAloha, HinnyHoosier, IUsafety and 7 others 9 1 Quote

A.j. Nigh Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 My 2 cents..... First what an incredible day of games! My son and I, got there just before tip of the Culver/LN game and after that game we already felt we got our money’s worth. I’m no college scout but here’s my version of what I saw, in order of who impressed me most to least. Disclaimer - first and only time I’ve seen any of them play in person. Romeo- lived up to all the hype and more. Not nearly as selfish as I expected, takes his shots, very few seem forced, but distributed quite a bit to create for others too. TJD - virtually unstoppable going to his left. Pretty much got what he wanted when he wanted all day against someone 5 inches bigger. Uses his body to create space and finishes well with contact. Had a couple pretty spim moves in the paint. Most impressed with his defense/shot blocking. His timing to not get fouls or goal tends is very good. To me he’s #1 on the 2019 wish list and it’s not close. Trey Galloway - obviously a coach’s kid, and gets it. Sweet stroke with range. On the floor multiple times after loose balls. Barely missed a one handed oop that would have been “Dipoesque” showing off some hops. For not knowing much about him going in, he made me very aware going forward. Only a sophomore. Rob - was a little concerned with how selfish he appeared in first quarter with his shots but then realized he had very little help on his team. Distributed more throughout the game. Was pleased how easily he could get to the rim. Will be a beast of a big ten point guard imo as a jr/Sr. Defense is a concern in my mind, because his team plays a zone. He may be a great man to man defender but didn’t get a chance to see anything because of the zone. Jerome - I see the potential with the ability to have a 6’7 guard and he’s very lengthy but there was nothing in the game (on either side of the ball) to make me think he has any sort of major impact as a freshman. The 3rd and 5th foul were ridiculous calls by a ref wanting to put his mark on the game, with the same ref calling both technicals which resulted in his 4th foul and ejection. He wasn’t visibly heated and there was no bad body language or theatrics and reports of him refusing to leave or being escorted out are just badly worded. Of course an assistant coach went with him to the locker room- so there’s your escort out. I’ve never seen an ejected player walk out by himself. It’s not as if game officials or police had to restrain him and walk him out. From the time the second technical was called, it wasn’t 20 seconds that he was still in the building and 15 of it was walking to the exit. I’m sure he said “something” maybe indirectly at the ref which he shouldn’t have done, but I have no concerns of a hot head or head case as some of the twitter reports made it sound. Anderson - hit 2 clutch 3s at the end of regulation to help take the game to ot and some free throwsbut wasn’t impressive before that. Missed some forced shots and didn’t show me anything on the defensive side to make me think he’ll be much help there- hope I’m wrong. He was in foul trouble and sat the whole 2nd quarter. Would like to see him again in hopes I change my mind. Brooks - Romeo virtually shut him down in the paint. Got most of his points in garbage time in the 4th taking the ball to the hoop. Looked great in warm ups hitting from 3 easily with a nice looking shot. Based solely on last night’s performance, I came away thinking he’s very overhyped. Popular Post Uspshoosier Posted December 10, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted December 10, 2017 Thoughts on the 2017 forum tip-off classic. First should thank everyone involved in putting this event together and major props to Brian Snow for seeing an opportunity to showcase the state of Indiana’s talent. It has been fun watching this event grow in the 4 years that I have attended. The event has gotten bigger and better each year and has gotten more attention nationally. It was good to see more people on here got a chance to come out and see this great event. I just wish the WiFi was better so I could of updated during the games and check the board and tried to meet up with some of the other members in between gamesMy thoughts on the players I saw yesterday Hemenway- CAM is taking the right approach in this recruitment. Evaluate and track throughout the year and probably summer and then make a decision on an offer. I love the fact that he is making getting an Indiana offer a big deal( as it should be). Alex had is worse shooting game that I had seen him play. Nothing was falling for him yesterday 1-9 from 3 I believe. This is a tough one for the staff. Xavier, Clemson, butler and Creighton all have offered. I’m sure if IU offered they would be top of the list. Moving forward does IU want a backcourt of RP and Hemenway in the future I don’t know. Tough decision for the staffTrey Galloway- he was the one recruit that I wanted to see play. Not much out there on him and the others playing in his event I have seen or have the chance to see more frequently. From my 1 game watching i came away impressed. First thing that sticks out is his athleticism is noticeable right off the bat. He is a coaches kid and as a sophomore he is the leader of the team. Talking and being engaged the whole game. Leads my example and busted his butt the whole game (first to the floor for a loose ball). His shot goes in and I can’t put my finger on it but there is something in his mechanics that’s a little off. Nothing wrong with it because it goes in just noticeableTJD, Majak, Etherington- if your on he enough you know I watch TJD every week and know my thoughts on him. He is and was my number 1 target for 2019. I think he will be the front runner for Mr basketball in 2019. His improvement over the years has been fun to watch and I’m in for a treat this year because he is about to take another leap. When he learns to play angry all the time the sky is the limit. I don’t like his body language when things are going bad and there is a little adversity. He lets is emotions effect his game sometimes but I have no worries that he will use it as a learning experience moving forward. Buckle up because this recruitment is only going to get harder I see UCLA and others getting involved. Majak moves really well for a 7 footer and has a nice touch from the foul line. Long way to go for him but you can’t teach 7 foot. While I come to these events for the top recruits, I enjoy watching players like etherington that aren’t ranked high just as much. He was HSE best player and played with a chip. Crowd was giving it to him and it didn’t phase him. Played hard and just made plays all game. I have no clue who is recruiting him but he will be playing somewhere in college Part 2 later Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners 323SGrant, HoosierAloha, Class of '66 Old Fart and 8 others 11 Quote

Came away convinced Davis should be priority 1 Galloways form is a little strange and he seems a little stiff and upright if that makes sense. Anderson seems a little wild but 6'7'' and lots of length and jumping ability on his shot.Going to be a real problem for defenses when hes on. Hunter has good handles but doesnt seem to want to mix it up inside much. Whines way too much and cost his team a win because of it. Phinisee is as good as I thought and can get to the rim pretty much whenever he wants.Lots stronger than Ive seen before. Romeo was by far the best player in the event and totally frustrated and dominated Brooks. Brooks is ultra athletic and long but needs to get a lot stronger. My first time at this event but look to make it an annual trip from here on out. Uspshoosier Posted December 10, 2017 Author Posted December 10, 2017 Part 2RP, E. Hunter- I’ve haven’t hidden the fact that I’m a huge fan of RP’s game. Ever since he led his team to the class 4a state finals as a sophomore I have kept an eye on him. He is the definition of true point guard. His first half is exactly what I was wanting to see from him. He literally had to do everything himself to keep his team in the game. He got to his spot on the court at will and hit some really tough pull ups. Rebounded better then I would of thought. He put his teammates in position they just couldn’t hit anything in the first half In my opinion if you surround him with players he will make the right decision more times then not. I feel he will start from day 1 and I am confident he will be ready. He fouled out on a couple questionable calls but handled like you would want your future pg to handle it. During a timeout he walked over to the ref that fouled him out and had a conversation about the call and ended up shaking hands and walking back to the bench. I can’t speak for everyone but I’m glad the staff prioritized him from day 1 and think as highly of him as I do. Hunter was always an intriguing recruit to follow and track. I first heard of him when he transferred from Pike to Tindley. My concern with him has always been level of competition he played against by being in class A. I watch class A basketball and while I love it, it’s just a different game then high level 4a. For me scoring 43 points against Indiana math and science doesn’t give me a good evaluation. Each time I watched him play upper level teams last year his team lost so I was skeptical. Like others he has improved since last year. He is a very smooth scorer. Some will want to do it but there is no way you can compare Hunter with RP. Hunter has a specific skill scorer)and is not asked to do much more then that. RP will be asked to do more and will have more put in his shoulders. I can’t vision hunter playing PG in college. To me he is a Very athletic SG. I questioned if he was a D-1 talent and I was wrong to do so. Purdue got a good one. Anderson, Hunter- Anderson struggled mightily in the first half. Shot wasn’t fallen. I liked the fact that he continued to rebound despite the struggle. Defense will be a work in progress. If he wants to be a good defender in college he has the tools to do so. He played better in 2nd half and hit 2 big contested threes at the end of the game. South Bend Riley ran the same play 3 straight times to get him shots. Hunter is an interesting recruit. His size and length give him a chance to special as a wing or big guard. In an interview he said again that IU is telling him he was recruited to play guard. He needs to improve on his handles for this to happen but if he tightens then up watch out. He plays with a fire that you need if u want to be good. They had another kid on the team that is going to Miami (Ohio) that plays well along side him. It took him time to get going but he had stretches where as an IU fan you should be really excited. I always like a chance to see kids live so I’m glad his team made the drive. The ejection was overblown. The pro IU crowd let the gym know their dissatisfaction with the foul outs of hunter and RP. I came to watch them play not sit. Hunter said some words and got a T and I believe he didn’t know he got ejected he was walking back to the bench to sit but there was some confusion. Romeo, Brooks- nothing needs to be said about him that hasn’t already been said. He is special and will make any program better. I don’t know where people are getting that he is leading Indiana fans on but I just don’t see it. While watched the game before as he was sitting in the stands I watched him sign and talk to every little Indiana fan that come up to him also after the game he stayed 40 min after to sign autographs for young kids. In the state of Indiana he is a 18 year old super star and from what I see is handling it with class. Every IU fan that went to watch him play last night knew going in to watch him that there is a chance he won’t end up being a Hoosier so I’m not seeing the leading IU on narrative. He is one of the best players I have had a privilege to watch live. Romeo Langford’s don’t grow on trees so if he is within driving distance I would suggest making that drive. IU fans will do their part to show the love all year. Now it’s time to let an 18 year old make and respect his college choice. Me, you, and IU will all be fine regardless of his choice Brooks had a bad game. It happens sometimes it’s not your night. I feel bad for the IU fan that waited to see him play and see this performance. If you would of went to last years game you would of said he was a top 5 recruit, if you went to this one you would question if he is a top 50 player. He will be a heavily sought after recruit regardless of how he played yesterday. No one is going anywhere. He wants to be on the wing and doesn’t like to bang at all. He had some instances yesterday that would make a scout drool. Long way to go in this recruitment Can’t wait until the 2018 forum tip-off classic Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners 323SGrant, IUsafety, HoosierAloha and 2 others 5 Quote
Demo Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Agree with most of the assessments on here. Couple of things: The 2 late 3’s Anderson hit were awesome shot-making. Heavily contested, must make, catch and shoot 3’s with his team down. He isn’t Jay Edwards, but that was Edwards-like. How much better would we be this year with a legit shot maker? Hunter didn’t have a great game, and his demeanor is definitely odd, but there isn’t a single quality you could possibly want that he didn’t flash. His ceiling might be higher than anyone there not named Langford. Brooks-Damn. I would really like some feedback from people who have seen him a lot and fill in some blanks. What I saw: Listed at 6’9”. No way. Had 2 inches on Langford, so 6’7”. Maybe 185. Not sure how much weight he can add. He’s not under developed, just has a really, really narrow frame. No lower body strength. Was pushed off the block by every New Albany kid he tried to post. Every one. Exceptional run/jump athlete. Blocked a Langford drive that was just rare. But otherwise wasn’t much of a factor inside, despite being the tallest, most explosive kid on the floor. Shot needs work. Every jumper was different. Turned down a couple of straight line drives and settled for jumpers that he missed. North got down early, and it looked like he shut it down a little. Looked to me like a talented developmental kid. But a must have, elite recruit? Didn’t see it at all, I was expecting to see sort of a Kris Wilkes type. He is nowhere close to Kris Wilkes. Oh, and I’m not sure we’re not underrating Romeo. He makes incredibly difficult plays look so routine. Amazing player. May be a touch sac religious, but I would take him over Eric Gordon. MoyeNeeded, Jam, HoosierAloha and 2 others 5 Quote
