IU vs Iowa Post-Game Thread

Recommended Posts

I think that is a big part of the problem. Nobody really expects much from the football team and so the results never change. We routinely recruit in the bottom third of the conference and that's where we finish. I don't know what the answer is but it is incredible to me that given all that IU can offer we continue to be this bad.

Whoever the color guy was on the ESPN broadcast today said "80 teams go to bowl games. Indiana is better than 65 of those teams, whether they qualify or not."

I don't think the number is that high, but Indiana's so damned close. We obviously got crushed being in the division we're in; but this is a decent football team that just needs one thing to go right....one bounce. One stop. One call. It seems there are one or two plays that beat them every week. At least we're right there more times than not, now. A few years ago, Iowa beat us something like 652-6. Or that's how it seemed. Cultural change and expectations of a program take a long time to change. This program is miles better than it was 5 years ago. One damned break.....and I think it snowballs.

That one play, could have been the reviewed TD just before the half. If, that would have been reversed the whole game may have changed.

My eyes tell me we are better than 5 years ago but the bottom line is that BL was fired with a putrid 6-30 conference record and Wilson's is now 6-31 and actually getting progressively worse as he is 1-12 in his last 13 conference games.

I think you may have them confused with someone else.

2009: lost 42-24 (this was the game where they were unbeaten and ranked 3rd or 4th in the country and we were actually leading for awhile in the second half before the refs came to their rescue).

2010: lost 18-13

2011: lost 45-24

2012: won 24-21

2014: lost 45-29

Everybody keeps talking about how we're just one or two plays away…maybe if we weren't making the same mistakes game after game, we'd give ourselves more or a chance.

I am not blaming the fans but he said expectations were low at IU and people leaving a very close game,at the time, confirms his feeling that expectations are low. Do you think everyone left because they had high expectations of the program/game/result??

yes, expectations are low. Were they supposed to be high when we're 4-4 and haven't won a conference game, all while playing the #10 team in the country? It's like expecting northwestern or Mississippi state to do the same in basketball.

No I do not think expectations should be high.
My point is that Sud's said expectations are low and I am agreeing with him (and you ) and people leaving at half
confims that. Somehow that always turns into "people are blaming the fans" but that is not the intent.

Just being a guy that lightweight follows iufb, I've been fairly entertained this year watching the team play the top schools fairly tough. I mean, we're basically a good receiver or 2 away from being a ranked team.. Which we would be losing our minds over, no?

Im just saying, I don't see anyone better coming in to coach. Were fairly close... But really need a very good QB to step in or give Diamont a 1/4 of a downer.

I think for me is this should have been the year to go bowling because next year we lose a very good QB. We will struggle in that department, and we know how that served us when he was injured. Our defense will be better next year, but we lose a lot on offense. Our WR's will be better and we still have Coleman, but we need a respectable QB to compete.

Just frustrating because there is no way we should have lost to Rutgers, and we will be lucky to win at Maryland the way we seem to play down to competition. We should beat Maryland and Purdue, but that doesn't mean anything. Been a very disappointing season, especially seeing how good this team can be. Very good talent, but we can't put it together.

I am very nervous about next season without Sudfeld. I just feel like Wilson hasn't planned for this at all. Our whole strategy for winning is having a relentless offense and without a QB as studly as Studfeld, I don't know how we're going to do that.

PU and MD are both on the road. Hope we win both but in 5 1/2 years Wilson has won one BT road game (against an IL team that went winless in the BT).
Two road wins in a row might get him a statue and 20 year extension.

Plus, Maryland is a good team with a tough SOS. They're not just going to roll over, they'll put up more of a fight than Rutgers did.

I don't like the comment in its entirety, but you all must be seeing something there that I'm not. To me its a very honest assessment. My initial take after reading the complete quote, was that the team was working on what they had to do regardless of the atmosphere and lack of pressure. As far as if that's a indictment on the fans, so be it, its not like its not true. It needs to translate into wins, but I haven't got the sense yet that this team is walking into any game thinking they can't win.

Call it a poor choice of words (and a piss poor edit on the tweet) but I really don't want him making up some big story about the pressure just for PR's sake.

A good receiver or two, a game ready backup QB, quality depth in the secondary. We've got some very good pieces a lot of places, but there are holes that need filled.

Would that be Jordan Coleman?

again, until you see WINS on the field fans aren't going to continue promoting a mediocre to bad program. I don't see why people feel like blaming the fans are going to change anything. If the stands are packed, do we win that game? Let's be rational

I tend to agree I just don't get why you pay to attend the game then leave at half. Its IU football but we are still usually in it at half. I'd either stay home and watch on tv (most likely) or suffer through to at least the 4th quarter.

Yea, I'm not upset by the quote at all. I appreciate a leader being totally honest. Got to be frustrating.
