Emmitt Holt dismissed from team

Recommended Posts

Sounds like he still doesn't think he did anything wrong.  Just thinks he is in trouble because he was held to a higher standard due to being on the basketball team.    It's still breaking the law regardless of whether or not other students get away with it.

But I mean. He's totally right. He did only get in trouble because he was on the basketball team. Heck, he got punished harshly because other members of the team had been punished more leniently.

Anyone else who breaks this law and is caught will do a class about how drinking is bad and it won't even be on their records.

I would bet he was warned after his first incident.  Thus, I would think he would have known he was on zero tolerance and understand the repercussions of further incidents.

From the outside looking in, it seems he had the i don't care, i'll do what i want mentality and it didn't exactly work out for him.

Can't really compare to other students.  Holt wasn't dismissed from IU, he was just dismissed from the team.

This.

Although I agree with the other parts of your post as well this is the point. Everyone says all other college kids do it.. Hell I did it... But he isn't being punished by the school... If he wanted to stay at IU he could have, and probably under the new policy even gotten some sort of financial aid.. He just couldn't represent the University any longer as a member of the basketball team... Different thing, different rules, different repercussions.

I think you can make a good point either way. I'm just pretty much over it now. AND, I'm not sure Holt or Davis were such a big loss. Not like either was giving us 10 and 6 before being kicked off the team. We were HOPING for that but look where they ended up.

While I think Holt's numbers would have been improved this year, it's not really about stats. It's about versatility, flexibility and depth. Unless someone like Morgan really surprises and is ready for a somewhat large role at this level, we've lost the ability to go big for extended stretches. We're pretty much relegated to small ball now.

Say Maryland, Duke, Purdue, MSU, etc. are killing us inside, we would have been able to slide Troy to the 3 and then play Holt/Davis next to Bryant. In that case we'd still have Max to back-up Bryant. We could still slide Max to the 4 next to Bryant to go big, but then we risk Max and Bryant getting into foul trouble, with nobody behind them.

IMO, losing Holt and Davis really hurts our versatility and ability to play varying styles. Now the comeback to that is that Crean has never shown an ability or desire to play varying styles, so maybe it's moot.

Exactly. Purdue and Maryland will have at least 2 bigs on the floor at the same time. Maryland will have a front court of Stone (5), Carter (4), and Layman (3). We cant just slide Troy to the 4 against them. Holt had gained 15 pounds of muscle and was much better suited to go in and bang with Carter, and allow Troy to matchup with Layman. Now we have an instant mismatch. I just dont see us getting much out of Biefeldt and Morgan. I'd love to be wrong on this. Purdue will put us in a similar predicament as well.

Okay...there are a lot more individuals that choose to party here as opposed to BYU.

Yes. But those who chose to, do, wherever.  If you come to IU because of a party culture, then that's on you, too.

Didn't you compare him to other students? And who cares if he was warned? He still received a punishment far worse than deserved for the crime and has the right to be miffed about that.

I mean, at least he's being honest. Would it really be better if he just wrote some standard garbage that everyone could dismiss because it sounds like he didn't even write it?

I mean, whether he had warning or not, whether he could stay in school or not, whether it was deserved or not, it still sucks. And watching thousands of kids get away with it while you receive a punishment out of line not only with them, but with everyone else on your team has to be very frustrating. If he wants to express those frustrations then he's earned it.

The punishment he received is 100% based on him being on the basketball team and held to a higher standard. I'm baffled how you could think otherwise.

Mike Miller @MikeMillerHT
Asked Fred Glass if president McRobbie had role in decision. "No. He leaves that to me and makes it very clear that Im responsible for that"

lol

Mike Miller @MikeMillerHT
Glass tells me there was a 2nd IU basketball freshman at scene when Holt, Bryant were cited. 2nd player not involved, Glass declined to name

Mike Miller @MikeMillerHT
Glass said Holt is not paying for his teammates' past sins "because of Emmitt's direct involvement with what happened with Devin Davis.

Yes it was based on him being on the basketball team or rather on being an athlete at IU.    If he was kicked out of school, then Holt would have a point about how unfair he was treated.

Regardless, if you represent IU and getting a free ride for your athletic ability, you SHOULD be held to higher standard.
