Emmitt Holt dismissed from team

Recommended Posts

That's the only way we'll get the on court results we want, but that's a different conversation. I'm not convinced this wasn't too late but that's wait and see.

That's not a different conversation at all. It all on/off the court inevitably lands at the feet of the man in charge.

I have mixed feelings on this. I understand it's been a trend and so to right that wrong you want to come down hard.

But I feel like to this point all it does is leave everyone with negative feelings. Giving him a 10 game suspension tells the players and the public that IU is serious about discipline. Kicking him out after a second (extremely minor) offense seems like a raw deal for Emmitt personally and does a disservice to our team. What does this say for recruiting?

I think you have to exercise context clues and treat every situation differently. The crean that forgives his players would be rewarded by a guy like Holt, not so much a guy like Hanner.

If nothing else, hopefully this is the wake up call the team needs and they spend their free time getting better. Or you know, at a minimum, avoiding cops

Utterly and completely agree.  10 game suspension would have been more than fair.  I get that an example had to be made...but 10 games would have been more than sufficient.  I feel bad for Emmitt.  What he did was dumb, but the consequences were much greater than what his transgression deserved.  If I'm a teammate and close friend of Emmitt, and I know what other players have been getting away with in the past (ie, multiple failed drug tests, fake IDs, etc), then I'm quite resentful of Crean.

Basically, Emmitt is being punished because Crean was weak on Yogi, Standford, Hanner and Troy.

Doing stupid things doesn't guarantee that you'll get caught, but it dramatically increases the odds.

When someone is caught doing something stupid there is no guarantee that there will be consequences. However, when there are consequences, it should be no surprise.

Life is not about doing what it takes to guarantee success; it's about doing what it takes to dramatically improve the odds of success. Emmit Holt had multiple episodes where he did what it took to dramatically lower his chances of success in life.

Sad news.

I'm done with IU basketball. Not until the coach and the AD is gone. The coach hasn't received a single lick of punishment for a single issue. I'm done. This was the final straw for me. It's been real fellas.

You may be done for awhile cause glass will never fire crean.

Wish him the best. Hopefully this has more of an impact on current players and future players/recruits than past punishments have. Wish we didn't have to be in a position to dismiss guys from the team this late in the summer

You don't always get a second chance in life. Holt got one and threw it away. It stinks for him that he's basically paying for the sins of some of the other players, but if he was getting work in at Cook or hanging out at home with some friends he wouldn't have had to. Good luck to him wherever he ends up.

Mike Miller @MikeMillerHT
Asked Fred Glass if president McRobbie had role in decision. "No. He leaves that to me and makes it very clear that Im responsible for that"

lol

Mike Miller @MikeMillerHT
Glass tells me there was a 2nd IU basketball freshman at scene when Holt, Bryant were cited. 2nd player not involved, Glass declined to name

Mike Miller @MikeMillerHT
Glass said Holt is not paying for his teammates' past sins "because of Emmitt's direct involvement with what happened with Devin Davis.

This isn't what I wanted to see happen by far since I liked holt as a player. This is going to kill us down low and is a big blow to what looked like a promising season.

Well then maybe the coach needs to get control if his team! Program is out of control.

LOL..All the people whining about him being dismissed were the same people pushing for harder punishment. It wasn't about the crime, it was about his poor decision making. Deal with it

Who exactly is doing that? Most have held to the stance they took when the news broke
