Emmitt Holt dismissed from team

Recommended Posts

It's a blow to the team but not a major one.he was talented but players will just have to step up. Addition by subtraction. More minutes for og juwan Hartman. Also does anyone know if we can use the scholly that is open now?

Here's a thought that might work and provide insight into just how much these players respect Crean:

After dismissing Holt, CTC, being he honest and fair man that he is known to be, places himself under the same blanket of zero tolerance. He realizes that this is a trend in HIS program and he is indirectly responsible, since he is the leader of the team.

It is a major blow if bryant gets hurt or in foul trouble. He was probably the first big on the bench. Now it will be small ball again when bryants not in. It is a blow but had to be done.

I think the phrase "team chemistry" is overworked but what is the impact on this year's team?  Does this latest incident bring the team closer together or does it create a rift with behind the scenes finger pointing among the players?  And what does this do to the team as individuals and how they view and respect their coach?  Rhetorical questions that may or may not be answered as the season progresses.  For what it's worth, I do envision additional openings on next year's roster over and above the ones we all pretty much agree on.

I have mixed feelings on this. I understand it's been a trend and so to right that wrong you want to come down hard.

But I feel like to this point all it does is leave everyone with negative feelings. Giving him a 10 game suspension tells the players and the public that IU is serious about discipline. Kicking him out after a second (extremely minor) offense seems like a raw deal for Emmitt personally and does a disservice to our team. What does this say for recruiting?

I think you have to exercise context clues and treat every situation differently. The crean that forgives his players would be rewarded by a guy like Holt, not so much a guy like Hanner.

If nothing else, hopefully this is the wake up call the team needs and they spend their free time getting better. Or you know, at a minimum, avoiding cops

What this says to our potential recruits is that the party is over. If you want to come to IU and play basketball, we welcome you with open arms. It also tells them that the scholarship is not a ticket to party and do the stupid things that have been allowed to continue for the past 3 or 4 years.

Was the punishment for Emmitt harsh? Undoubtedly. But as the IU athletic office said Holt was released "for demonstrating exceptionally poor judgment in the circumstances surrounding his recent citation, particularly coming after his involvement in the Devin Davis accident which should have motivated him to make better decisions."

Glass also said Holt is not paying for his teammates' past sins, that it was "because of Emmitt's direct involvement with what happened with Devin Davis."

Life is hard. It's harder with you do stupid things over and over.

Honestly, it sucks because I like Emmitt and what he could become.  But from a PR standpoint it had to be done.  After all of the things that has went on within this program for the last 3 years it is disappointing he had to be the sacrificial lamb.  That should have been Hanner.

This is how I feel. I do not feel he should have been kicked off, but completely understand why it was done.

Right now the culture of this team is crazy so weeding out these players that continually screw up will only help in the long run

The LAST thing we need around this team is more weed!!!!

As Coach K once said:

  • There are five fundamental qualities that make every team great: communication, trust, collective responsibility, caring and pride. I like to think of each as a separate finger on the fist. Any one individually is important. But all of them together are unbeatable.
