IU Hoosier41

Sports Illustrated Big Ten Predictions

Recommended Posts

Looks pretty accurate to me. The one X-factor to me would be Michigan. I could see them as high as 2nd and as low as 5th.

The Hoosiers - I will cheer as hard as I can and hope we pick up a couple B1G wins.

We showed them!!!
They had 6 teams in our division ahead of us but we went out and beat ONE of them.
Going 1-6 in your division is "in your face" IU style.

Sorry. We'll just set back and wait for you to give the ok that we've done well enough to earn a few seconds of trash talk to the sportswriters.

I am thrilled we are going to a bowl but feel 1-5 in the division is not exactly a strong " trash talk" hand.
Just my opinion..... not sure where your "permission" comment comes from.

What about pushing OSU, Michigan, Iowa to the brink? Also we would've beat OSU had Suds and Howard not went down. These loses weren't your normal IU loses and those teams were glad to just escape with the W.

All three were fun to watch.
All three were better than past years.
All three count as losses in the standings.

Also....keep reading about the OSU Suds and Howard injuries, which I agree were a HUGE bummer and I have said the same thing to friends, but if we go that route what about all the Maryland injuries (including QB) when they played us?
Does that make one of our two conference wins count less?

Again, do not get me wrong. Very happy we are going bowling, and will try to attend our bowl game, but just saying that in my opinion
1-5 in the division does not make the pre-season sports writers look like idiots.

Lol, point out the last time we had even a weak "trash talk" hand? I don't think anybody was taking Natty's crap to serious in these two threads, but it was a bit of fun. Whether they were wrong by a inch or a mile, we're just going to treat them like they were mindless idiots. Which they may well be, they are sportswriters. They won't mind, I doubt they ever even know.

Really wish we would model our divisions somehow other than geographic.  Could we do a North/South actually what would that look like?

North: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, MSU, Northwestern, Iowa, Nebraska

South: Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, OSU, PSU, Rutgers, Maryland

OSU and Michigan want to be in the same division so they aren't playing again a week after "The Game." It's why we have the setup we have now. The league does what they want.

1) Good luck Minnesota

2) I don't think its a stretch to say we could finish 2nd in that hypothetical South division next year.

From the division split, IU is definitely the school in the middle that got the short end of the stick both geographically and competitively (the Purdue game is a good balance). I love the current divisional setup. The B1G East is right up there with the SEC West as the best division in college football. CKW said he has already used the division as a recruiting selling point.

Playing in front of packed stadiums at Michigan, OSU, MSU and PSU is a huge plus. Not to mention the traveling crowds we get from OSU and Michigan. Also, given IU's huge alumni network on the east coast it makes sense to have the football team associate with the eastern schools. IU got prime time Saturday afternoon games on ABC against OSU, MSU and Michigan. We wouldn't get that type of exposure in the western division.

Recruiting trips during away games to Ohio, Michigan and the Mid-Atlantic are significantly better than if we had to go further west.

Certainly competitive but a great opportunity to elevate the program.

Yeah, honestly, it would make them worse. Now North is (or has the potential to be) totally stacked with Minnesota being the only program without traditional or recent success.  At least West has the possibility of those traditional teams making a comeback and being competitive. South would never get there. OSU would win every single year until PSU came back if ever. It would be a constant battle for the bottom half. Maybe we'd have a better record, but it would be worse football.

I wish we could send one powerhouse West and take a weaker team East, but otherwise it works. It's far more exciting watching Michigan, OSU, and MSU battle for the top spot than knowing who will win it.

Should put the Hoosiers and Purdon't in the same division so they don't have to play two weeks in a row. Hahaha.

I'm excited to finally play Nebraska next year. It's in Bloomington, and while they will bring bus loads of fans, they at least have a decent reputation. Hard to believe we haven't played them yet.

Speaking of which, have we played at Minnesota's new(ish) stadium yet?
