Hoetzel to transfer

Recommended Posts

Nick transferred to IU with 2 years of eligibility so I don't know why he would leave IU.  The kid wants to play, and I think that he warranted playing time with his contributions to the team this year.  I like Nick Z.

I totally agree, but if the kid graduates doesn't he have to be enrolled in classes at IU to actually play BBall for IU?

That is my question. Where does he stand on his degree and is it legal to just enroll in some UNC type classes if he does have a year of eligibility left?

Not surprised, and am I the only person who isn't upset about this? He was horrible when he did play, and was so cocky he thought he actually deserved more minutes??? He wanted more playing time, maybe he'll get it elsewhere. I'll say good luck, but I won't lose any sleep over this.

Damn. I didn't care about Stan but I liked Max. He had potential. He coulda been gooood. Why is it that 2 players who play leave but 2 who don't, refuse to leave.

Yeah he has to be enrolled, but I don't think Nick could get that grad degree in just 1 year. I could be wrong, but that seems pretty quick for a grad degree at Kelley.

He could take what ever classes he wanted to be eligible though. Mariota was taking like Yoga and badminton last semester at Oregon.

Thanks for clearing that up Hov. I had heard he would be done in 15 months. So I would assume that would be before the season starts, but I also think I heard that on here or on Twitter so may not be true at all.

Yeah it seems that we don't really know how close a guy is to graduating until he leaves early. Like after Cody and Noah left, Crean announced how much school each one had left. (Noah only had something like 15 credit hours left to take I think, which is mind blowing)

Good for them. I have much respect for all you guys and gals on campus in Bloomington. It took me 1.5 Victory Laps (5.5 years) to get a B.S. at a small Methodist school in Owensboro, KY. God forbid I was anywhere close to a Nick's or Bluebird. I am 33 would still probably be a Soph or Jr.

Cody when he left had 35 credits left and I believe that the number has changed because he took classes over the summer.

I'll be taking at least 1 victory lap too! More because I don't know what to do with my life and less because of partying though lol.

I took Honors Calculus. It was the teacher. 50% drop rate. I stuck it out because "I'm no quitter" and it was the worst grade in my academic career. My best friend who I beat on the first exam by 10% dropped the class. Took it the following semester with a new prof and got an A. I'm still salty on that one haha.

So no one liked the professor that required knowledge of the material and liked the one with the easy A? Who knew?

See, it was the student.

Good luck Max. I really hate to see him go as I think his upside is really good. He has size, decent handles, a good shot, and had the ability to rebound. I never saw a timid player as others have suggested although he didn't play well at times. If he played out East at prep school, him now saying he wants to play closer to home is a head scratcher. I buy the he didn't get along with coach excuse more, and playing time certainly was a factor. We like to fault all our players defense but forget who's teaching it and the mindset( ha ha Crean word) that it takes to play it. I think he will have success just as many others who have left. I think its our loss more than his.

Best of luck to Max...it is disappointing to see him go, I thought that he was going to make a great role player.  As with Stan...he donned the Cream and Crimson and represented me and my university...He will always be a Hoosier in my book and will always cheer for the kid.

Based on everything I've gathered neither were "Creaned." I'm not sure that matters, facts rarely do. The perception is that everyone who transfers from IU was forced out by Crean and that doesn't bode well on the recruiting front - especially in-state.

I saw some back and forth on whether Crean did his due diligence while recruiting MH and have to say I'd side with Wayne on this one. I can't recall the exact details of the recruitment but remember talking with people who said it all happened really fast and the common thought was it was a knee-jerk reaction to losing out on Devin Robinson. I realize MH committed 3 days before DR committed to Florida, but the word was pretty concrete directly after DR's visit to UF and definitely after KJ's last ditch CV effort. I know it was pretty concrete because it got to me, which means the staff was fully aware.

Anyways, best of luck to MH.

thanks for the insight and vote of confidence. Yeah, the Max signing was my first WTH moment of 2014 recruiting. I was following it all very closely. As it turned out, I was pretty pleased with Max's potential but it was a very odd recruitment and showed to me how desperate we were.

Well being a graduate transfer he is still taking classes for his post graduate degree, i don't remember what that is, however.
