Thoughts on Archie Miller

Recommended Posts

For me it's Stevens, Donovan, Hoieberg, Marshall, IN THAT ORDER. I would also like S.Miller if he was available.

Sean Miller already turned the job down back when we hired Crean, and IU went after him pretty hard. So I just don't see him leaving Arizona for IU. He is getting all the recruits he wants there so he probably wouldn't want to leave that

To those saying Miller hasn't done anything to make him worthy of IU yet: you are right.

And generally, I would agree with the approach that this hire has to be a home run.

But, in coaching hires there are two types of home runs: already established powers (Donovan, Stevens, etc) and up and comers. Miller is unequivocally a great basketball mind and it may take him a few years of learning on the job, but he is a rising star in the coaching ranks. It may not bring instant success, but he could grow with and at IU and be our next great coach that is here for decades

But do we disgruntled IU fans give him years of learning on the job?

Exactly! The grace period for Donovan and Stevens to win before fans get disgruntled is long, Marshall's is shorter, and Miller's is much shorter yet. I would think Miller would need to be at least competitive the first year and at least make the tournament the second year or else the rumblings would begin.

I'm most impressed that he had players screw up and he showed them the door and kept winning.  As we all know everything comes back on the head coach and for whatever reason they only have 6 scholarship players.  I haven't heard him make excuses for it and they keep moving forward.

i agree but still not seeing this as a good game

Yeah first half was ugly, but I enjoy watching those defensive struggles personally. They took it to Providence in the 2nd half though. Archie keeps looking better as Dayton keeps winning.

I would die a happy man if I never saw the weave at the top or the drive baseline/ jump/ pray/ pass.

I think Ive seen every team in college basketball do all of the above.

Just look at IU. Mike Davis, Sampson, and Crean…every one used the weave at the top.
