Christian Laetner

The only thing I didn't like about the 30 for 30 was that they seemed to try to make excuses for him as to why he had a subpar NBA career. Blamed it all on that fact that he played on bad teams and didn't have good coaches blah blah blah

yeah...he did...didn't he...
while wearing a shirt that was labeled Duke...what?
ohh...that's right...my bad...it said Christian Laettner...

he was so full of himself that he wore a T-shirt that promoted himself...LOL

In his defense, the shirt was about his basketball academy and camps. Can't blame the dude for advertising

I remember those days well.  I can remember the buildup to that Duke/UK game.  IU had already advanced in the tourney and would play the winner of that game.  I knew IU would beat Kentucky.  I knew the refs were helping Duke win every game; thus for the first time ever I was cheering for UK to win.  Then the game happened.  Duke was getting every call.  Laettner stepped on that Kentucky dude and no foul was called.  No foul was called!  It's getting ridiculous.

Then the IU game.  Duke got every call again.  Like 812dude said, the refs fouled out 4 of our 5 starters.  I don't think I've ever seen anything as blatant as the officiating in those two games in my life.  The officials stole our 6th banner from us and gave it to Duke.  It caused me to hate Duke and Laettner forever (and Bobby Hurley).

So no, IU fans as a whole hated that punk who was gifted everything.

Just watched a 30 for 30 on him. I wasn't alive when he was in CBB. Being that IU was and likes the above average white guys that are clean cut and firey. How did IU view him as a whole?

I supposed like him because he crushed UK's hopes lol

The title of th3 30 for 30 was an accurate description for most Indiana fans I know. IMO, he should have been ejected for that deliberate stomp on the UK player and the failure of the officials to do so likely cost IU another championship. That plus the jobbing that the refs put on IU when they played Duke in the following game are the reasons why.

Laettner was one of the players that you hated because he was on another team, but would have loved him if he was on yours.  He was arguably one of the cockiest players ever, but could back it up on the court.

I always liked Laettner and Duke. IU of course is my team and the only team I root for, but when IU isn't in it I usually root for Duke. I like Coach K, like that he's a Knight guy (even though they've had their issues) and like the way Duke plays the game. I really liked those 91-92 Duke teams, except when they beat IU in the Final Four. I also think part of me liking them was not wanting UNLV to go undefeated and not liking the Fab Five. I was actually at the Duke-UNLV game in the Final Four in Indy when Duke beat them. Was an awesome experience!

Also, for those ragging on Laettner for the kick, which was completely wrong and childish, when is the guy that threw Laettner into the hoop stantion going to apologize? That was a pretty cheap shot as well.

looked up IU vs Duke box score from 1992.

fouls Duke 18, IU 33

free throws Duke 42, IU 16

Un-freaking real.

The Duke, Notre Dame ACC tourney game was the same  in the last 7 or 8 minutes.Even the announcers were like WTF.

When you play the Dukies your playing against the refs too.

I remember rooting for Duke against UNLV as well and Duke was actually my second favorite team up until the stomp and the subsequent hose job of IU in the following game.

It wasn't a kick, it was a clear and blatant stomp to a defenseless player flat on the ground. The stanchion incident was probably worthy of a flagrant 1 but at least debatable.

True life, my dad is very good friends with Bobby and Danny Hurley's father. I've met them both a number of times and grew up a Duke basketball and ND football fan. I still follow both programs, admittedly not very close.

I have extreme admiration for the early 90s Duke teams

same exact number as my high school sectional game this year. Beat the team in reg season. In sectional, they hosted -> 41 FT for them 16 for us. Fouled out our two all conf and all indiana southern team, fouled out back up big man. And fouled out started Pg. None had fouled out all year before that game. #sour
