Potential fallout from coaching change

Recommended Posts

what if Crean wins over the masses with this tournament, and he still bolts?

Crean beats Marshall, Self, Notre Dame, Calipari and the undefeated Wildcats, Bo Ryan and the stud Wisco team, and Izzo in the championship game, and immediately announces his move to Alabama.

That would be the darkest of ironies.

That's not the point. Izzo, Calipari, and Thad are all proven winners at the highest level.

If Crean, a coach perceived as well below average by the fan base, upsets a solid mid-major coach with a better, more experienced squad, who is then immediately hired as the new coach a couple weeks later, how well do you think that will unite and inspire a fan base nervous and frustrated due to the failures of the last three coaching hires?

I'm assuming this post is directed at me...

if not, I apologize...

but I'm talking big time...what if...

big if...

IU does something miraculous...goes to the Final Four...

and says...I'm done...I'm gone...

edit...Good Lord...earlier I omitted the n't...and now I added one that didn't belong...

please forgive

. I would not be very excited if we hired Marshall. I don't see him taking on the challenge of IU and being any better than Crean, honestly. It's going to take a very very special coach to satisfy our fanbase. HomeRun or chug along with Crean. **I believe the HomeRun is coming this spring.

and that dinger would have what name? And why do you believe this

No directed at TomPritchard. Sorry! Quote didn't work.

But you're scenario is hilarious.

Yeah? What if Crean beats him Friday? That'd sure look like a great hire then.

Davis beat coach K, who is better? One game means very little to me. I've seen enough from Crean to know he is not a good enough coach at a blue blood. Hell even BAMA fans don't want him bc he isn't good enough.

Go look at the resume of Gregg Marshall. Tell me where you don't see him as being ready for the jump up to IU? His track record says everywhere he coaches he wins, wins consistently, and wins championships.

. I have zero confirmation of anything. I'm honestly just convinced at certain rumors and I've decided what makes the most sense to me. I've went all in on my gut feeling. I think Crean resigns Bc his family is uncomfortable and that Brad Stevens will be our next coach. Call me crazy but in my head this makes way more sense than the theory that we have little chance at landing him.

Look at his post season record... Hardly ever past the first round

last year, misfortune. The year before good run.

Conference he's always done well.

With mid major talent against other kid major talent. He is option 1B. LOVE to have him

To each his own, and your argument is pretty solid. I just wouldn't be overly moved by his hire

I see one Final Four.

Tom Crean has one Final Four and two Sweet Sixteens.

I want our next hire to be a no-brainer.

Brad Stevens or bust. I don't want to have to get my hopes up for a promising coach like Gregg Marshall, only to watch him crumble under the pressure.

This could be a complete fabrication but I really respect and trust my barber. He really doesn't care that much about IU basketball. He just knows I'm obsessed and loves to tell me the insider stories that he hears.

since the discussion is about Devils and Salvation tonight...allow me to add my 2 cents...

there is a contingency that believes that Brad Stevens didn't develop his teams...

that he inherited them...

what if...

that's true?

what if...

Butler was led by Brad's predecessor?

uhh ohh...what then?

I agree that this is possible. But I think this would be the most galvanizing hire out there.

Stevens is a very smart coach. He may need help recruiting, but he's a good coach. The fans need to be 100% this program and the coach, and good things will happen.

That's my belief. Just get a smart coach who can unite and inspire the fan base. Get the hype machine going again.

. He was lead recruiter for Matt Howard, Shawn Vanzant, and Zach Hahn. He also recruited Gordon Hayward, Ronald Nored, and Shelvin Mack as their head coach. This contingency that you speak of is out of their minds with those claims.
