Potential fallout from coaching change

Recommended Posts

Keith is a great person as well as coach, but I didn't say he was the one. Let me just say this, I don't mind being discounted, after all, none of you know me personally. However, I've been fortunate to experience IU basketball in an era and from a perspective that few have had. I am immensely grateful for that, and it is for that reason alone that I care deeply for IU basketball. I'm sorry if I have offended some of you with my posts, I have what we used to call a type "A" personality. I would just suggest that as much as things change, they stay the same and the future will play out in the future. Much of what happens is determined by the Varsity Club members, they are the jokers with the juice, and until they decide, Glass doesn't know which way to turn his head. None the less, I believe that the next Coach will be someone from the past at IU.

If there was a former Hoosier that is a home run hire, I'd be beating that drum.  Thing is, there's not.  Every single one of them have huge question marks around them.  The ones that might be good coaches down the road have very little experience as a head coach (if any), and the ones that have experience as a head coach wouldn't be upgrades over Crean.

We need a home run hire this time around, we absolutely have to hit it out of the park.  We cannot take a risk on a guy that might be good eventually IMO.  Stevens gets mentioned because he grew up idolizing IU and because it's a hire that would say we're not screwing around we're reclaiming our spot, no one has said he'll take the job.

Completely agree. If we have a vacancy, the goal is to hire the best coach we can get. The coach best equipped and with the experience to lead IU forward and win bigger and more consistently than we have the last 15 years.

While an "IU guy" would be great, and could maybe accomplish that, there isn't one out there with the resume that would make you think they can. The IU guys in the college game are all largely inexperienced, and the IU guys in the NBA haven't been all that successful as head coaches there and don't have a minute of experience on the recruiting trail.

In a few years I would be all for this. He is MSU's head recruiter and I think he could do well but it would be a few years before he was ready probably.

When the change happens, we need a coach who can "coach". I think we all know what we have right now and that is a recruiting coach. I might end up in a looney bin if we try that 7 year experiment again.

Guys, attacking posters is not allowed, esp with excessive language. It's done, lets move past it. All that matters is....... GO IU!!!!

Is this aimed at me? Don't really get where that dude is getting mockery from my posts. I just don't agree with a single word he posts

. He won't ever be a world beater. Really unimpressive at IPFW. I'd rather give Archie the job than Dane Fife.

Wait, what? Is this meant to be sarcastic and i've just had too much to drink? Fife was definitely impressive at IPFW.

Edit: just looked at his record. Was good his last two years. Don't recall state of program be walked into

More aimed at 87, but overall the back and forth can be toned down a bit.

Not so much aimed at you. It was about the name calling that I hid coming from another poster.

Like DJ said, the back and forths don't help lol

Guy over at peegs claims to be connected to program as a local physician. Swears Crean will be back next year. Says Crean thinks they can be title contenders with Bryant. Reiterates Crean will be back multiple times.

Not sure if this is a troll or not but I've been pessimistic of a coaching change immediately after the Bryant news broke. Lots of people saying lots of things. Not sure what to believe.

Yeah I have seen this and I am just hoping that he is wrong. There are also a few guys over there that are very adamant that he will not be back no matter what. I think its just a waiting game.

Tom Crean is who he is. One win at home vs an average MSU team and finally signing a big man don't change him as a coach. I, for one, don't want him back and can't understand why anyone would at this point. Hanging on to current players who have a max of three years left on the team doesn't matter in the long run. College bball starts and ends with having the right coach in place.
