Walking Boot of Doom

IU vs. MSU Postgame

Recommended Posts

Really? This game sucked, but there are a lot of games left, and there will be plenty of fun games to watch.

I can't understate how embarrassing and disappointing this game was, but it's also one game. I don't expect this to be the norm for the rest of B1G play. The game at Nebraska is probably our average, and this game looked like our absolute low. We literally cannot play worse than we did last night. There will be a game to offset this one where we can't miss a shot.

Hope that game's the next one!

I'd almost bet it will be.

Watched CTC's post-game wrap up on inside the hall earlier, and his comments to HMP were surprisingly pointed.  In CTC's years with the program this is the first time I have heard him address a player's work ethic and performance so bluntly.  Specifically he mentioned that HMP "hadn't worked" in his first two years with the program and that HMP was a "work in progress."

This echos a lot of what gets tossed about on the board, but I must admit that I was surprised to hear CTC stat it.  Let's hope this is a wake up call to the players and staff.

I know a coach can only do so much. Maybe tonight is just one of those games where it snow balled and there was nothing we could do to turn the tide. That happens. After all, a coach shouldn't be judged by one game.

However, I'm waaaaaay over all of this "youth" and "he can't make the shots for them" stuff. Come on, folks. Of course there's elements that are out of his control. On the flip side, there's TONS of things that he can control.

- He's hand picked his players.
- He selected his staff.
- He picks the style of play and the system.
- He decides how to develop the players, etc.
- He decides nearly every detail in the program...and yes...he is a micro manager.

I'm not saying fire him midseason, but what happens on his watch is his responsibility...whether it's on or off the court. That's why being the coach here is a huge responsibility. IU is an elite program (well, I hope we still are), and settling for mediocrity will have long-term damaging effects on the program.

I picked us to win this one by 10... Man was I wrong...but I think it's high time we start to expect some consistency in our program.

The "other experts" predicted us to lose by 8

What one and dones has coach K had stat past one year again? Including this year he has had 3 guys recently good enough to leave after one year. Two left after one year, and barring a serious injury there isn't a chance Okafor comes back

Are you asking why kids stay at Duke with Coach K, yet similar kids leave IU with coach Crean?

not really a comparison...but more of "what does Coach K do that we can use to help increase staying power all over" (every school) ...he does something well to keep those guys there...I kinda think of him as the Anti-Cal.

Sulaimon off top of head, he was a top flight recuit that stayed.....I'm sure there are others...I hadn't really took the time to research or study the Duke roster...I don't really pay THAT much attention to the bread and circus of sports (other interest to worry about)...but I'm sure one could take the amount of 5/4 star recuits that went to Duke vs stayed would be different then the other blue blood schools...I don't know just adding to the convo....be cool to see what the ratio would be but I'm not going to do....

Game sucked. This was the first game I've turned off in many years. Embarrassing, but I had a bad feeling about this game to begin with. I didn't quite expect that, but felt MSU was going make a statement. I'm not mad, but a message has to be sent to the players for that outing. No other way about it.

There was never a chance Suliamon was a one and done recruit. Pretty sure he as more of the caliber of Rojo, than anything close to Irving, Parker, or Okafor.

Edit: He was highly rated, much higher than Rojo. But stand by the statement he was never one and done caliber. It is more remarkable Zeller came back

I had basketball practice with my daughter last night, so I recorded the game.

Looked at the score after practice and could not bring myself to watch last night.

This will be the first game in over 14 years that I have not watched, but you guys have convinced me that nothing good can come from hitting the play button on the recording.

I was just starting to get a little excited about this team...

I'll just stick my head in the sand and wait for Saturday to come along....

wise choice. Not worth damaging your eyes with that ugliness.
