Walking Boot of Doom

IU vs. MSU Postgame

Recommended Posts

Gonna be hard to watch another game this year. Thanks Hoosiers.

this was that "one" loss that totally flips my mindset for the season. I knew deep down we were a marginal team, but slowly my expectations had risen as we faced other marginal teams.

This loss completely reset my expectations on the season. I expect now a 7th to 11th finish in the BIG. I won't let my hopes get up again.

I was just saying the other day that we will finish top 5 in the B10 and JBJ and Troy will play out of their minds in the tourney taking us deep.

I also said that Troy and JBJ will be playing unbelievably hard/good so that they don't have to stay in our program for another year. Even if they are late first rounders.

I'm not too sure about the first statement I made.

lol. True.

In a nutshell, that's our biggest problem. Guys want to be NBA players not college basketball WINNERS. We need guys that HATE to lose. Pretty simple but I think this explains our problems over last year and a half or more.

Obviously everyone wants to play in the NBA. It's just that I have a feeling that Zeller and Vonleh (and players in the future) would have considered staying another year if our program was ran differently.

I'm not too sure about your second one either,no offense.

There are guys in the D-league that would absolutely eat their lunch. They cant guard decent college players and JBJ is finding it  harder to score now he's playing against BIG caliber competition.Troy cant shoot a lick.

They might get there but its going to take a lot of dedication.

The point I was trying to make is that our players seem to be playing for a way out. Not because they want to be there and win.

It's almost as if they do not want to be there and the second they get a chance to leave, even if they shouldn't, they are going to take it. If our program was ran differently maybe Zeller or Vonleh, or if Troy or JBJ leave would have stayed an extra year if things were ran differently. I'm not saying anything groundbreaking here, just asking a "what if things were different" statement.

Vonleh absolutely falls into that category.

He made no bones about it and I think that has hampered our quest for a replacement.

MVP? A loss by 20 deserves no MVP. However, if I had to make a choice I'll go with the pilot and flight crew who got the team up and back safely. A special thanks to said crew for keeping an eye on the hearts that remained on the plane during the short stay.

After a night's sleep I have come to the conclusion that:  Sometimes I think we fans make way to much out of one game.  Sure the team looked like crap last night, but just as they were not as good as we build them up after a win, they are not as bad after a loss.

The most troubling aspect to me was something that we have all talked about, and that is rebounding and lack of an inside game.  Nothing surprising, there.  The only surprising aspect was how bad we shot the ball.  Hopefully there will not be any more games like that the rest of the year.

The lack of defensive intensity was what burned my ass. They got punched in the face and just laid down.

No excuse for lack of effort. As one poster here put's it, Our Matador defense was in full glory last night.

What makes them stay at Duke? It seems they have always had 5star players but dont lose them every yr...they seem to stay there...Whys Duke any different? Just asking.

Are you asking why kids stay at Duke with Coach K, yet similar kids leave IU with coach Crean?

lol, yes he was, and that is the answer.

Jabari Parker left after 1 year but shed GREAT light on Coach K and the Program. He said so many great things, really made it seem like a tough decision even though it wasn't. It was handled beautifully.

Vonleh.......the exact opposite.

Really? This game sucked, but there are a lot of games left, and there will be plenty of fun games to watch.

I can't understate how embarrassing and disappointing this game was, but it's also one game. I don't expect this to be the norm for the rest of B1G play. The game at Nebraska is probably our average, and this game looked like our absolute low. We literally cannot play worse than we did last night. There will be a game to offset this one where we can't miss a shot.

Hope that game's the next one!

I'd almost bet it will be.

Watched CTC's post-game wrap up on inside the hall earlier, and his comments to HMP were surprisingly pointed.  In CTC's years with the program this is the first time I have heard him address a player's work ethic and performance so bluntly.  Specifically he mentioned that HMP "hadn't worked" in his first two years with the program and that HMP was a "work in progress."

This echos a lot of what gets tossed about on the board, but I must admit that I was surprised to hear CTC stat it.  Let's hope this is a wake up call to the players and staff.
