Coach Jackson to Kansas

Recommended Posts

Lol... I had a long response typed out, but it's not even worth it... One thing I have noticed as a mod over the years that is pretty interesting. Typically the people who complain about mod inactivity are the same ones hurling insults out of the other side of their mouth... You know? Crean apologist, too tan tommy, purdue lover, idiot, etc... Then when someone comes back at us when someone says something that bothers them.

This isn't directly at you. This is to both sides. If you throw it out there then sack up to the response. If you post in a polarizing way expect polarizing responses. If it gets to be too much we will let you know. We are not the thought police...

Word! Also, we do not see every little word that's posted on here. Things fall through the cracks, and we do ask to report things that you see.

Just something to keep in mind. I call Mdn a d-bag all the time, but he gives it right back :)

Hey Josh, you will have to get in line to call me names; it's never enforced here unless you call the head coach one. Guess I'm entitled to my opionion just as you since this is a message board. I don't take any comments personal like many here. I did find amusing your relating Crean to a good manager. Obviously wins and job performance isn't one of your qualifications. I will give you props for your picture of a great SC raised coach. I think he would do a fine job as Crean's replacement.

I thought "lunatic fringe" was more of a joke than a name call, but if you're offended I do apologize.  I hate name calling.

I do think that many people will find fault in the simplest of things just so they can slam Crean.  I swear some people would blame him if it rained during a game, causing a loss of television reception.  The responses in this thread prove that imo.

Nobody knows what happened in the intimate details of Jackson going to Kansas.  Anybody who gives details about what must have been said by coaches or AD's is full of poop.  From appearances, it looks like Jackson got a promotion.  Good for him.  Trying to blame Crean and calling our program a sinking ship is overboard.

I do agree that the results on the court have been problematic.  We should never lose at home to Eastern Washington, Penn State, Northwestern, Nebraska...etc.  I don't believe that Crean is the man to restore IU back to perennial championship contenders.

However, I don't believe that Jackson leaving for Kansas is another chance to bash Crean.  That's an overboard agenda.

::Slow Clap::

Great post Josh!

Not trying to argue, but doesnt this only apply when promoting within? Personally, I dont really view it as a sign of success when we lose valuable assets to direct competitors. Especially when they are essentially doing the same work for them that they did for you. Assistants taking HC jobs is one thing. I don't blame Johnson and Jackson for taking more money at all. Johnsons salary was nearly doubled. That's a no brainer. What makes me scratch my head is Calbert Cheaney taking the exact same position he turned down at Indiana University. The same place where his entire legacy was built.

That's a fair response and I appreciate your work regulating this great sight. The two camps seem to be on very opposite sides so hopefully we can win a lot and tonight would be a good start.

I agree on the opposite sides.  Some would be amazed to know how much we have to defend people we disagree with and so forth.  We have opinions for sure.  We are fans like everyone else, but we try to be careful in a sense.  We want varying opinions.  That is what makes a site fun.  If we posted as much as some with our opinion it would be viewed as we are trying to shape the site to our opinion.  I wouldn't want to be a part of that.  Thanks for your view and what you bring.

I would say that Jackson being on the sideline goes a long way to dispel the disgruntled employee ideas that have been thrown around. Either he was perfectly happy, or it is a good move by crean to have him come to a game after the announcement was made that he was leaving.

It was really nice seeing JJ out there still putting his all in tonight. Didn't mail it in. Speaks to his character!

Well said----Class Act!

JJ was into the game tonight!

We are going to miss him----I hope he leaves us his blueprint for player development-----because except for the bigs who seemed to always have some foot injury----our strength and development has been second to none!

Congrats JJ---good luck in Kansas where you have coached before and where some of your best friends still work!  We appreciate all you did for IU Bball!

One thing I've heard from an actual insider, is that Crean is a complete control freak to work for. We've seen some guys bail out on him. I hope that isn't the case here. And im being serious. I've heard Crean even controls what songs the Band can play during a game.

...Crean has no control over what the band plays. Maybe he's made some requests about what goes in our book, but I have more say in what we play than he does. He's probably the coach who's interacted with the band the least in the past bunch of years.

Anyway, back on topic. It sucks to see JJ go, whoever replaces him has big shoes to fill.

Coach Martin has been on a photoshop rampage over the last day or so.  Always curious of the intended audience when I see coaches start blasting tweets...fans (alums, current students, etc.), current recruits, or maybe the family of current recruiting targets.

I am a Crean critic, but I don't think this is a big deal...  Jackson almost certainly got a hefty raise, what would you expect him to do?  Losing guys like him and KJ is likely more a reflection on what IU is willing to pay assistant coaches than it is on Crean himself (and I'm fine with that, it's absurd how much some of those guys get paid).  I also don't think either loss should have a big impact on the court.  If Crean is worth his salt, than losing a couple coaches shouldn't impact on court performance.  If he isn't, then Jenay Jackson and Kenny Johnson weren't going to save his job anyway.

So---it sounds like we use Assistant ----Chris Virtue----as interim coach until we get JJ's replacement?

Not sure yet.  Jacson was at our game in Nebraska, who knows when he leaves at this point.  Perhaps he gave 3 months notice until the end of the season?
