IU Vs Gtown (Post Game Thread)

Recommended Posts

That 3 second time out, I felt was ok not to take. Wed have lost ,5 getting it called, and then we ha e no inbounds plays. Its the not taken to stop momentum TOs I quarrel with.

is this really the consensus I mean we cant get the ball in bounds so why try? If so this is ridiculous also with seven to go we didnt bother trying to stop them from getting the ball in I am at a loss

A few hours later, I feel a little better about the loss. Usually go back and watch a game after a day so I can pay attention to finer details. Loved the rebounding game against a team like that. They should build off that. Seems like they really have focused on it more since Louisville.

Jimmy buckets, yogi and Williams did everything they could do really.

This was a game that I thought Hanner would struggle with. No big surprise there. Can't believe the big dude was out jumping Hanner 90% of the time lol. Where did this 12'2 stuff go? Lol

Crean called a timeout after we had lost control and drove straight in to a defensive trap

Hanner is useless. Absolutely the worst big man I have seen at IU and I'm including Pritchard

Stan is a cancer to this team and I can't wait until he leaves forever

Our defense is pathetic

Yogi chucking up threes is NOT an offense

didnt play well and still forced overtime and all it took from a likely ncaa tournament team. this game prepares us very well for big ten play. do hope before they depart for nebraska they focus on all of the swatted drives in the film study. if you make a strong drive to the basket determined to score, you have to finish at the rim. jbj, rojo and williams have no problem getting past their man, but damn near always settle for a fading away layup when they approach the bucket. in most instances it results in a turnover or a stop. i've noticed it all season. oladipo did it a ton during his first two seasons, maybe watford too. drove us all nuts.

jbj will be so much fun to watch when he puts more effort into being a complete player. a good player now thats just scratching the surface. future all-star when it comes together for him. his defense is just well below where it can be and needs to be. he's been a liability on the defensive end in the formidable games thus far, no doubt about it. his finishing in the paint leaves a lot to be desired as well. adding muscle in spring and summer 2015 will help. also needs to watch film of junior oladipo to recognize what kind of energy and alertness it takes to dominate like he can and fulfill his star potential. he's gonna be a helluva player.

Question on Blackmon. Maybe it's me but I've noticed he doesn't seem to have the ability to get his own shot very well. Against good athletes he doesn't seem to possess the lateral quickness to really get space. He's definitely got some hops. Just wonder how much the knee injury he suffered affected him in this area? (Btw, Johnson seems to be about the same, to me at least)
As an additional observation. I've really seen some development from Williams in the last few games in a lot of areas. More under control and patient,a little less selfish. If the young man continues to progress like that all year and improves his jumper a little he's gonna be a pro or an absolute beast for us next year! I'd prefer it be for Indiana!

Responding to the bolded...well man, I've lived in the Mande-Eggers generation of IU basketball so I can't quite say the same.  lol

Stan really does seem out of place on the current roster.  Like bench fodder.  I would not be surprised to see him transfer.

I agree we're really close to being a good team. I'm hoping we find some answers on the defense end, because this team has the potential to be a tough out in March. Some of the players just look slow on defense (even on doubles), which just kills them, because they're too slow to effect the ball and they moved off their man leaving a wide open shooter. I'm not sure why they would ever drop off Smith-Rivera, because he was the only real threat for GT from the outside.

Next game is huge. We need a strong start to the big ten season.

I've been saying the same thing about jbj... He disappears for stretches against tough competition... And he doesn't play a lot of team ball. Thought Troy paired excellent team ball today, jbj I knew was going to force a shot everyone he got the ball today.

If I remember correctly the year after Eggers graduated he came back with an AIA team and torched the hell outta is! Made me wonder if maybe he coulda played a little better if given a chance...and maybe he was exacting a little vengeance on RMK.

moving on to Nebraska...

they are definitely vulnerable right now...

they haven't protected their home court, and haven't lived up to expectation or the hype of last year...

it's time for IU to get some payback...we have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory over in Lincoln and it's time to make a statement...

Jared Jeffries - 2002, Washington Wizards.

You're right and he led us to final four; something 2 lottery players on one team couldn't do under our current overachiever. All we needed from Crean today was a little coaching coming out in the second half, and early timeout to change the gameplan when it started, find a way to keep the ball from Andre the giant, and attack a simple 2-3 zone just like against Syracuse 2 years ago. Although he failed miserably again which is expected when the team needs him most, I was proud of the team's efforts in spite of him. It's not their jobs to do his and for this reason alone is why Indiana will never reach it's full potential under him. At this point in his tenure, I would feel better turning the reins over to Joanni; coming from her bloodline I bet she could coach circles around her husband. Or better yet see if Jim may want to take over here instead of Michigan.

I kept waiting for the shoe to drop and of course it did. Embarrassingly outcoached in second half. I've never seen coaching to blame so damn often in my life. Good game plan coming in but, Man, second half we got blistered.

We were out toughed again on and off the court. Thompson was working those refs all game. Worked to his advantage by the second half. He worked himself into some favorable calls.

Bad decisions by Troy down the stretch and Yogi in OT. Yogi had nothing for DSR on the defensive end either.

Besides that, Troy, JB, and Yogi balled out.

Saw this one coming from a mile away though. No shock!

100% agree. We've seen this gig so many times now...

You are correct, AIA blew us out.  I remember watching that game in my dorm room and feeling...lots of bad feels.

Technically.

Now that's a word I haven't heard in 7 years. Wonder if Crean knows what it means or no doubt he doesn't; how to use one for his teams advantage? Even dad gummit Coca Cola Roy aw shucks in NC has been issued one since then. Its not like we haven't been screwed royally over and over by the officials to warrant one. The obvious answer is Crean doesn't watch enough of the game to actually know when were getting screwed. He's too busy frenetically pacing enough to bother the tv announcers than pay attention to the game. If Glass cared as much as he says about Crean being the answer to our problems and not part of them, he should tape a 5' box around Creans chair, kinda like a penalty box so he has to watch what's going on. He could infuse the Bobby Knight chaining down the chair rule as a precedent for the sake of the program and his own bhind much like the AD under Knight who was scared ________ of Knight. He could call it the coaching box rule.

That team got hot at the right time, and Dane Fife suddenly learning how to shoot certainly didn't hurt.  Davis had the benefit of inheriting a team built for a run by one of the greatest coaches ever, one that RMK said would play for the national title and should win it.

Crean should try and get Jim to take over for IU football, that'd be the only way we'll get anything good out of the universe shattering stupidity of his contract.

And to the Crean defense league, that last statement has nothing to do with his help in us losing a game we should've won today.  Those are my honest feelings on Crean, that contract was indescribably stupid and it's a complete waste because he is not the man to take us where we should expect to be.
