Stevens isn't going to come right out and say he'd be interested, it wouldn't be a smart move on his part. His interest would have to be guaged through back channels.

I'm not saying he is, but he won't come right out and say so.

What a joke. Keep trying to pick and choose bud.

You never even explained how it was even similar. Thats cause its not. Your example of the Cubs doesn't make any sense. You didn't even explain your case, cause there is none. Your example is a joke. If you wanted an actual example you could've gone with the Warriors letting Mark Jackson go, The Nuggets letting George Karl go a few years ago, the Clippers letting Del Negro go a few years ago, the Reds firing Dusty Baker, etc. Those are examples of teams that had winning records yet fired coaches. Any team that consistently looses with no prospects of winning can be expected to fire coaches. So you can keep saying Im picking and choosing, but Im actually including an explanation to back up my claims. All you are doing is criticizing my posts and not actually posting anything to back yours up. Classy!

There's nothing to back up. You said there was no opening and I gave you an example of it not mattering. Pretty simple stuff going on here bud.

Your examples don't make any sense because they fired the coaches before hiring the new one. There were talks of Jackson getting fired weeks before he did. The cubs were already talking to Maddon before they fired their coach just like what people here were talking about by mentioning reaching out to Stevens in back channels. But according to you there were no whispers. Which I doubt you have any clue about either way.

I say you're picking and choosing because that's exactly what you're doing and you really aren't backing anything up. You also state the cubs haven't won in so long blah blah blah but when was the last time IU won a championship? I don't understand how some of you pretend like a couple of sweet 16's really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Its not even close. Cubs haven't had a winning season since 08'. IU has had three winning seasons in a row. If IU had as dismal record as the Cubs then yes I could see your point. But comparing teams at two different ends of the spectrum doesn't make sense. If a team has a few winning seasons in a row, a coaching change is not expected. When you are the Cubs and you haven't been relevant in years, a coaching change could be expected yearly. I not saying picking and choosing situations but bringing up a situation with a team that hasn't had even a .500 record since 08' and a team that has been above .500 for at least three years in a row is way different. Not even close

Having a winning record in college basketball isn't an accomplishment at all. Comparing having winning seasons in MLB to college basketball is a bad joke

Just going to leave this here...

Not. Happening.

There is no opening at Indiana, and there won't be one soon. Dakich is sure showing himself these days. Shaka Smart? What a blowhard. If Indiana is looking, I'd hope sights are set a little higher. Coach K anyone? This is Indiana after all.

This is such ridiculous crap. Newspapers are dying because this is the kind of "analysis" given. 12 year olds in Indiana could tell you Stevens would be a possibility.

I am of the opinion that getting Stevens is a fools dream. Too many obstacles in the way. I do think we should still pursue him, but I think we should push for Shaka Smart as well. Go hard after both and the first to bite, get them. Can't go wrong either way!

Coach K? There's a difference between setting your sights high and being out of your mind. You think Brad Stevens wouldn't leave the Celtics but Coach K would be all "You know, 34 years, having the student fans named after me, having the yard where people camp named after me, 4 national championships, and universal love and adoration just aren't enough for me. I really want to go try and fix that school where I was an assistant for a season. I know I know, people think if I retire it should be from Duke because... duh. But, I figured I'd pull a Bobby Knight without the choking."

I mean, it boggles the mind. Why, oh why would a Hall of Fame coach from a perennial blue blood school consistently ranked in the top 5 or 10 ever want to leave that to go to a different blue blood school for a couple of years before he retires?

I think he was being sarcastic.

I think he was being sarcastic.

That doesn't make any sense either. Nothing around it is sarcastic to suggest that and Brad Stevens isn't reaching as high as Coach K. This is a text based service, you can't just switch back and forth between sarcasm and not in the middle of a paragraph! Everyone totally gets that. No they don't. That was sarcasm. BAM!

Psh. I'm even gonna like my own post. THIS IS MY HOUSE!

So to make sense of this crazy thread...

1. The original article is OK because it's for a Boston audience. Of course we're familiar with the subject because it's brought up all the time, but the average folks in Boston who are "picking up a papar on tha way to the paaaark" (think Boston accent) this could be news. Really this could be news for almost anywhere in the US besides Indiana.

2. The Star followed up with their own article pointing out that this is news elsewhere, thereby getting more publicity and reigniting the Brad Stevens/IU talk.

3. IU fans have gone through old college basketball yearbooks again hoping that our current relationship can be severed so that the guy whose picture we have circled and starred will break up with his current suitor so that the "match made in heaven" will come to fruition. Are the feelings mutual? Only time will tell.

4. No one truly knows what Stevens thinks about the IU job.

5. We're in limbo with the current guy.

6. These discussions lead us down paths of anger and rage towards one another.

Did I miss anything?
