Thoughts on changing our front court

Recommended Posts

I think our backcourt is pretty well established with Yogi JBJ and Rojo.

However, almost everyone on the board has expressed frustration with HMP and Troy. In a lot of ways, it seems as if Troy has almost regressed and it is clear as day HMP is thinking too much... or not enough... on the court. I submit that this team would be much improved starting Holt and Hartman as they both bring a much more team oriented mindset and hustle.

I realize this lineup gives up a bit of height but the way that Hanner and Troy play its not like we really lose any bigs. The last few games Hartman and Holt have rebounded better anyway.

I think Troy would add much more to this team as a burst of energy and scoring. Hanner also seems to play better after Holt performs, so maybe he should be the one coming off the bench.

Just interested in hearing some arguments for or against making this change...

Nothing is broke at this point really. Team seems to gel fairly well. Holt is slowly gaining mins. I thought Troy would at least have a jumper but he is still extremely active. I say leave everything as is. Let teams worry about matching up with our guards

I can see a bit of a sophomore slump for Troy. I don't predict a bad year for him, but not improved as much as I had hoped. I know I'm thinkin way ahead, but let's see if he can pull a VO4 coming into 2015.

Troy is averaging 5 more points per game and 1 more rebound per game than last year. Admittedly, he is still finding his way in this offense but we need his length and athleticism. Troy is going to need to see more minutes (not less) as our level of opponent improves.

Two months ago, I had written Hartman off completely. Wow was I wrong, he is one of my favorite players on the team.

Holt needs to get more minutes. How does he only get 11 minutes last night!!!???

yes and why crean don't see that is one of the things that scares the heck out of me with him as coach lol

When he transfers to Syracuse and becomes an All ACC player, Crean might figure it out. Dont laugh. Thats our luck. Hes a good player and he played 11 minutes.

Don't think Troy has regressed, just doesn't seem like he really improved as much as some thought he did based on the Canada trip. Still isn't engaged defensively, and just isn't consistent offensively.

With Troy I know there was a ton of speculation last season that he was guaranteed a starting spot and that is why he continued to start despite not really having earned it on the court. Could be the same deal this year

yep, I think that's true. He didn't necessarily deserve it last year, would have liked to see Fischer but I think Troy starting this year is correct. Now, Hanner vs Holt is a different question.

Is that suppose to be a reference to Patterson? Because he has sucked hard at Syracuse

We are fine. Holt deserves more minutes, but wish we would have gotten Priller and April more minutes last night. However, I understand not because Hanner and Holt need those minutes.

With Troy, he has improved, but we haven't see him be able to use his mid-range game much. Troy is very good in the transition game, preferably without the ball lol. While his defense still isn't good, I've been some areas of improvement. Most notably on getting screened. He got taken out on screens every time. This year, he's getting low and using his speed and athleticism to get around them.

He still has a long way to go, but he has improved some. I don't know what his work ethic is like, but he stays in there, he will break out soon. I don't see him breaking out until next season, but he will get there.
