You have the same play with every post. I'll give Crean a little credit for at least mixing it up once. I think you are due for what we had IUFanCharlie on. bleedhoosier Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 All I see is the media wanting a hot story about Crean being fired or leaving. Then a few boosters aren't high on him. I don't think there is anything else to see here. We are talking this thing into the ground but.. What else should we be talking about? Lol Quote

HoosierHoops1 Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Lot's of teams don't right now. A lot of variables that need to be addressed first few weeks after the season ends. pUKe doesn't know, nor does Syrexcuse. Quote

Three weeks ago he said: "I'm bullish on Tom...He's done a really good job with these guys. It's ridiculous to say that someone is coaching for his job for one game and that it would be up or down in one game...He's a great coach...He has my full support. GloryDays Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 A little off topic but he misses most of his rebounds by going for the weakside block. Bryant seems to be ahead in the fundamental department already maybe he could help get through the Perea on this. I've always thought that Perea would be better served as a weak side defender and cleanup man on offense. With Bryant here we could use the two together with troy on the wing. The key word being could. I really feel small ball is a bad idea in this physical league. HMP looks great when he has space to create on O/D and a player in a more engaged role (IE Bryant) could definitely allow HMP to roam without blowing assignments. From the limited film, that seems to be Bryant's forte, though it's always tough to tell when watching HS/AAU mix tapes. Either way, those two (along with Troy) could provide some outstanding highlights (Disclaimer: Yes, I know that, according to this board, CTC won't use him right and that I'm dreaming) IUsafety, GloryDays, scots07 and 2 others 5 Quote
Bobman1 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 You realize it wasn't lack of post presence that killed our defense. It was our lack of being able to stop dribble penetration at the wings. Remember to wasn't the same team minus Vonleh. We also had JBJR and Johnson as new starters. Adding a big doesn't fix our defense as simply as you are stating. There must be improvement on the wings first and foremost. Look at other teams of our size (MSU) and their ability to play defense. MSU has enough size. Matt Costello is 6-9 245, Hanner is 6-9 225. Similar but not the same. Izzo's roster contains many forwards who play as big men, Draymond Green, Brandon Dawson, even Adreian Payne a little, but they all can fight with the big boys and be a bruiser when they need to. Izzo is a great defensive coach and even defended Tony Bennet's Cavaliers better than the best defensive team in the country. Hanner is just smaller in every category than the other centers of the Big Ten. Look at Brandon Dawson today in the game, in the final minutes he and his team would grab rebounds with effort, with force, with desire. That is something that this team lacked, a will. I would like our team to be like a Duke(obviously, being realistic, not at that caliber) but have a tall decent big man( Jahlil Okafor) but also have a good forward who can rebound(Justise Winslow). The problem with our defense is defending in the paint. Sure, our wings aren't the best defenders, but if they play defense, but get beat, a shot blocker should be there to help create havoc for the dribbler. Our Guards need to take a leap defensively and Thomas Bryant needs to get his ass to Bloomington and start improving this team. GloryDays 1 Quote
Bryan Medema Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Our Guards need to take a leap defensively and Thomas Bryant needs to get his ass to Bloomington and start improving this team. Slightly OT, but does anyone have any data (defensive efficiency type #s I guess) that shows how much guards have improved year to year under CTC and if we can expect our guards to make a leap forward? I contend that Bryant could help simply by making other teams think twice, but I understand our guards have to be defensively competent first. Quote

I was looking for a stat that showed what teams average in the paint against us. Couldn't find one though, Oladipo improved greatly defensively and I think RoJo can too, if JBJ wants to he could as well, just don't think he'll really spend the offseason on defense. He would prefer shooting half putters just in case he gets the ball with a second left in the game. Quote

HoosierHoops1 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 By the way. "There is a sense that Tom is only keeping his job because of the buyout," Glass said. "And while that's a big number and a significant amount of money, that's not what is keeping him in the job." I think you'd need to come out and change your tune or make a change, before it changes to not having a job. Go get me a top 5-10 coach (not in his 60's) and I'll be ok with it. Quote
