(2015) C Thomas Bryant to IU

Recommended Posts

Say we land him and Thon.......would we ever play them at the same time? Gut says no.

Thon could theoretically play the perimeter or a hybrid high post position. That's the only reason I could see Crean doing it.

I must say, as an antiCreanite, Bryant and Thon both would have me incredibly excited for IU ball. I would be daydreaming about lineups for months.

One of the tandem, (Bryant), will get my hopes up again but I fear I won't be fully satisfied.

I would absolutely love to have Bryant regardless of which coach we have though.

Here is the big question? If we get Bryant and all notables return, do we still start Yogi, Rob, and Blackmon?

Seems like we would have

Yogi
Rob
James
Troy
Bryant

I would like to see troy play his natural position as a 3 somehow though.

My Daydream lineup

Yogi-
Blackmon
Troy
Thon
Bryant

Bench order

Rob 1-3
Hanner 4-5
DD 3-4
Z 2-3
Morgan 4-5
Hartman 2-4
Holt 4
OG 3-4

Extremely hard to rank bench order with this roster. (Priller or April) would probably return to lead the bench mob. Hartman would probably quickly work up the depth chart again.

Assuming Bryant and no Thon, I would like to see this:
Yogi
James
Troy
Holt
Bryant

Let Rob be our sixth man, Nick keeps his same role, Colin can spell Troy or replace him if/when Bad Troy rears his head, and HMP can be used in limited minutes to rest Bryant. We also could use either Morgan or Davis behind Holt, whichever is more ready.

The lineup you mentioned is probably what we would see though.

One more thing, it is okay to think it's time for a change but to also allow yourself to get a little excited about some of these possibilities and hope against hope even that things get better. That is where I am.

Hanner Parea is 6'9" with a 7'2"+ wingspan. The defense goes beyond getting more height.

And a crazy vertical. But always seems to jump a second too late.

From Crean's history he doesn't really deviate from a lineup for his scheme.  Players have been playing out of position since Crean arrived.  We will see Yogi, RoJo, and JBJ not have the legs for the jump shots at the end of games and the end of season because they are playing too much.

My perfect lineup:

Yogi

JBJ

Troy

Holt/Hartman

Bryant

If Troy develops a reliable jumper I think you go with Holt with an offseason of conditioning and hopefully improving his foot speed and lateral quickness to guard opponents 4s.  This would also keep 3 players to spread the court and allow for driving lanes.  Bryant hasn't played a college game but he should be able to hold his own on rebounds, Holt would be a plus rebounder, Troy and JBJ would be plus rebounders at their positions.

Most likely

Yogi

JBJ

RoJo

Troy

Bryant

I hope we don't start 3 guards if we get Bryant.  I truly believe one reason are offense has fallen flat the last two years is our freshman hit the wall in the 25th game or before. We need to start two guards and use Zeisloft and one of the returning sophomores off the bench. I hope they all play an equal amount of minutes.

The small forward will be basically Troy and Hartman. Maybe one other person will fit at the 3, but there won't be many minutes left over.

Under your scenario, without seeing Bryant, I would still expect him starting in the post with Hanner backing him up. Everyone else will fight for the 4 spot. There is no reason to start or play 3 guards unless it is needed to match-up better.  How nice would it be to have options?  We have to get a good post player. I prefer Bryant, but I would welcome Maker.

I still think we will get another guard for next year
