Easy to say from the comfort of my home, but if I’d made $150M in the league and I thought Wisconsin was constantly cheap and dirty, I’d walk into the presser instead of swinging, and say:
”The max the league can fine me is $10k so you’re going to get your money’s worth. Before every Wisconsin game we show the officiating crew videos of Davison hitting screeners in the balls and making dangerous plays. Then today he does it to our all-American. The league won’t discipline him or the team.
They’ve got coaches on their bench who encourage it, and who goad opponents on. It’s bush league. The conference knows because every other coach and department in the league tells them constantly. They’ve got the videos, so do officials, and they look the other way. I’m telling you all, and I’ll pay the fine, because they won’t change when we use the appropriate channels to file our complaints.
The fine is more than worth it for the attention this will get when you print it. And if anyone wants to chip in, you can Venmo me.”

I like this a lot…. Wisconsin is dirty…….

Instead he threw a punch and started a brawl.

I endorse your thoughts. Woulda been good. Sadly, not what happened.

“Juwan Howard has not apologized for anything that happened,” tweeted Michael Cohen of the Detroit Free Press. “Said he was upset about Wisconsin calling a timeout late in the game. He expressed that frustration to Greg Gard. Howard said Gard touched him during the postgame line and he felt the need to defend himself.”
I mean Greg Gard is like Andre the Giant and poor Juwan a clone of Pee Wee Herman.  I can't stop laughing!
Howard should definitely be suspended. Gard should also be punished for instigating the entire thing.

The poor officiating isn’t a bug it’s a feature

I can understand why you might think so.

Ok, I’m in a mood. So I’m gonna rant for a while.
As bad as it’s become, I actually don’t put much of the issues with officiating directly on the officials. Sure, they get a lot wrong. But, the evolution of the athleticism in the game has so far surpassed the ability of the current model to deal with it. I played my last game 38 years ago and the only thing that’s changed since then is that they’ve added 1 official. Michael Jordan was the re-defining athlete of my era. He’d still be a great player, but athletically, forget the NBA, there are so many college players now who are as good or better athletes than Jordan that he wouldn’t stand out today. He wouldn’t. The speed of the game now is just nuts. And that athleticism has shrunk the court, shrunk the sight lines and turned every call into a bang bang proposition. And yet, the game is played on the same court that was being used in the ‘40’s and being officiated by the same sort of collection of middle aged non-athletes. Those guys are trying, but today’s game asks too much of them. I think 2 things need to happen. 1) I would love to see the court expanded to something like 100x56. Changing points of emphasis won’t create freedom of movement without adding space to operate. You gotta give these kids more room to do what they can do. 2) At least at the D1 level, you have to go to 4 officials. Creates better angles of vision, better supervision, and officials are only running half the floor so their attention will be better. Hell, I’d really like to see 6 officials, 2 on each baseline and 2 at half court and then they’d never have to change ends. But, since that’ll never happen, I’ll take 4. Also, I freaking hate review for anything other than something that could result in player injury. Reviewing that change of possession at the end of the Wisky game for 5 minutes was insane. The whole last 2 mins thing is ridiculous. If they miss it, they miss it. Play on. Don’t kill the flow of play.

But, since none of that is gonna happen, I’ll just go ahead and stick with, yeah, the officiating sucks.

I'd be fine with more officials.

But overall, and purely IMO, we've seen (at times not always) some awful crews and awful individuals. If the NCAA doesn't have some dedicated QA folks, I think it's just silly. If services like PFF (for NFL/football) can grade every player playing every single play, I think the NCAA should be able to look at every single foul.

And I'll say this. I don't mind most of the game. But some plays (timing or situation) just really sticks out at times. If they are already grading every foul, then they need to add more guys. If they are not looking at every single foul, then they need to start there.

One could argue that Howard having his 5 star starters pressing a bunch of walkons down 15 with 15 sec which led to Gard calling a timeout which led to Howard trying a blow by that led to Gard not having any that and stopping him which led to Howard pointing his finger in Gards face which led Howard to swing at another assistant coach as the instigator

You know what if the Juwan Howard incident forces the Big Ten Administrators to change the way  refs officiate….. I’ll buy that man a beer.

This had nothing to do with the refs though. This has everything to do with Michigan getting destroyed on the court and wisconsin coaching their players the full 40 and Howard being a whiney b that has repeatedly thrown hissy fits

I guess I’m going against most here.  I jumped on here to see the reactions.

Howard should get a couple games in my opinion.  That’s it.  I will lead with it’s wrong for what he did taking it to that level.

However, I only watched it once on my phone so maybe you can all correct me.

It sure looked like their was a number of Badger coaches and staffers getting in the face of Howard and the UM players.  It also looked like they were getting a little touchy with both Howard and a couple of his players before Howard did what he did.  If I’m wrong I’m sorry but it sure looked like it.  If any Badger staffer touched any UM student athlete they should be immediately fired and face legal action.

My guess is Howard will get a few games and be forced to issue a insincere apology.  Wisconsin will get a slap on the wrist.  Everyone likes to pretend like Wisconsin is this clean cut program but their players are dirty and so is Greg Gard.

Like the tweet says, naughty language linked here. My two favorite things:

1 - Juwan Howard saying “I’ll remember this s***” referring to another coach calling a timeout to give his walk-ons a chance to break a press put on by regular rotation players in a 15 point game. Hollywood couldn’t write a better script.

2 - His repeated warnings of “don’t touch me” followed by him throwing an open-handed haymaker at someone 10 feet away. Juwan Howard is a world class heel.

Now that's an interesting video.  It looks like Howard was trying to walk past Gard, but Gard did grab him to confront him.  Then he played the victim.  Just like the Wisconsin players do.

Suspend them both.

Yes this is incorrect. There was no UW player nor staffer touching Howard nor any of his players nor staff when the incident happened. In fact, Howard had to lunge over his own players to strike Krabbwnhoft in the face.

Howard punching someone has nothing to do with UW players being dirty or not and his own explanation of the situation also confirms that.

I think if Howard doesn’t throw a fit there’s nothing wrong with what Gard did. Howard comes in hot with the “I’ll remember this” BS and Gard seemingly tries to explain why he did what he did. I didn’t necessarily think Gard grabbing Howard to explain himself was inappropriate, or at least not as inappropriate as Howard grabbing an entire handful of Gard’s shirt as a response. Howard acting like a pissed off teenager made a bunch of not bad things look way worse than they were.

I hate defending Badgers though, so yes suspend them both. Give Gard that hilariously weak max punishment and find a way to fire Howard out into space on Elon Musk’s next electric car rocket launch.

Agreed, Howard escalated it beyond the acceptable.  But Gard crossed a line here too.

I agree with that, but I'm talking about Gard grabbing Howard and pulling him back. They had already shook hands and were pretty much by each other.
