JaQuan Lyle off the board

Recommended Posts

At this point he is worth the risk. He would be the best player on the team. Would he be worse than the drug and alcohol issues current players have had?

He wouldn't be the best player on a team with Yogi and Blackmon.  Setting aside the fact that he has enough red flags of his own, as others have said we do not need another guard.

That's just silly talk.

5 star kid that can run the point, shoot the three and a B1G style body that can score in the paint. He would need time to get into basketball shape again but from a pure talent standpoint and when he is at full speed he would be the BEST player on this roster. Have you seen him play??

Maybe after a few months but I doubt he could join the team in January and be the best player on the team at that point. That is what it seemed you were suggesting.

He would be Top 5 from day 1. Maybe top 3. BTW, O$U watched him yesterday. He's an upgrade on the court over Stan by a fairly large margin.

He would be an upgrade over Stan.  I'm not comfortable with the issues surrounding him, and even if Stan left we don't need another guard.

I agree about the potential off court issues. However, given our 2015 recruits I think we do need another guard IF Stan leaves. Plus, Lyle is 6'5" and can play the 1, 2, or 3.

I'm not so sure we won't need another guard someday soon.

We are losing at least two players for next year to make room for two 6'7"+ recruits. If Stan was one of the current players who freed up a spot and Yogi graduated, that would make us extremely low on guards.

Even if Yogi doesn't leave our guards sans Stan are; Yogi, JB2, RoJo, Z. If we continue playing 3 guards as I'm sure we will, considering our anticipated roster, we need a 5th guard. As I've said before, Lyle has WING size at the college level. If his head is on straight, then he'd be a good addition.

We also don't know the status of Z. It was never clear whether this was a one or two year deal.

Yogi Ferrell is playing at a level right now that is not getting enough recognition.

Our team is not great, but I'm waiting and waiting to see a better point guard than ours in ALL of college basketball. I haven't seen one yet so far this year.

What we don't know is if Yogi leaves or not.  Crean has a real good idea one would think.  If he is planning on leaving I could see Jaquan coming here.  Remember he and JB2 are REALLY tight.  Have been for years.

Spot on, nips.

And you know how I feel about the odds of Yogi leaving.

He has company (Tyus Jones, Delon Wright, Marcus Paige, NOT point guard twin Harrison), but I'd happily take him above all of the PG's I've seen as well. Is it possible that Yogi leaves as one of the most under appreciated Hoosiers in recent memory? We haven't had as much success as we all wish, but I think he deserves way more recognition than he gets.

100% love yogi! But ya gotta win, baby.

I said the other day I blame Crean for not surrounding him with the pieces. His Freshman year, but Crean pulled the reins in on Yogi that year, didn't want him shooting.

Yogi's shot struggled his freshman year. Really benefitted from not being the primary scorer. Unfortunately, he still his. He's still the best at creating for himself. This offense still lives and dies by Yogi, but it's moving away from that.

Yogi was always a good shooter in HS. He did struggle his Freshman year for sure, but let him shoot his way out of it earlier in the season....

He was coached not to shoot and opposing D's sagged off him like crazy, packing the middle on Zeller and clogging Oladipo drives. In my estimation that was maybe the biggest general coaching blunder of that season. THAT is why we struggled late that season because Yogi stopped shooting the long ball and no one guarded him. Teams adjusted, we didn't.

We had Hulls and CWat hitting plenty of threes. Yogi needed to work on his mechanics, and towards the end of the season, his leash was given some slack because he was hitting smart shots. I disagree completely.
