Ladies fall 7-4 to Gardner Webb,  Trailed 6-1 going into the bottom of the 4th where we scored 3 runs but that was all we could do.  We could only muster 6 hits of which Bassett and Parker each had 2.  Johnson started and gave up 3 runs in the 2nd and replaced by Montgomery who gave up 3 more in the 4th.  KIeiman took the mound and finished the game.  Collectively, the staff allowed 11 hits.

We play Troy again this evening at 7:00.

That is a really a bad loss to a mid-major that was double-digit games under .500 last year and cancels out the Oregon win essentially. Given the competition, this was a weekend IU needed to sweep if they wanted to stay ranked. Still solid start to season, but this defeat hurts the resume big time.

Women bounce back today with a 12-0 run shortened win over FAMU.  We had 11 hits --  VanBrandt with 3; Geijer & Kettleman each with 2.  Kettleman had 3 RBI; Minnick 2.  Copeland started and went 4 innings allowing 3 hits; struck out 7.  Those 3 hits were all FAMU had.  Freshman Alex Cooper pitched the 5th and final inning.

Next weekend we're in Tucson, AZ for the 5-game Hillenbrand Invitational.  On Friday, we'll face Central Michigan and Arizona.  On Saturday Drake and a re-match with Arizona.  Sunday it's Marshall.

Arizona wins today's nightcap game 6-3.  Tough day for Brianna Copeland all the way around.  She started and went 3 innings and allowed 5 runs on 5 hits, 4 BB; 3 WP and a HBP.  Usually a good batter, she went 0-4 and committed 2 errors.  But tomorrow is another day and she'll bounce back.

Kleiman pitched the final 3 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits; she didn't walk a batter.

Offensively, we managed just 6 hits; 2 from Sarah Stone that included a 2-RBI HR.

Hoosiers have just scored in the 11th and lead 7-6.

Arizona opened the 12th with a runner placed on 2nd to start the inning.  An IU error put runners on the corners with no outs.  We intentionally loaded the bases to hopefully get a force out at the plate.  We get the first out on a fly out to CF and then a line drive double play got us out of the inning.  To the 13th we go.

13th nearly identical.  We intentionally loaded the bases with 1 out and got the 2nd out on a line out to 2nd.  Copeland got a strikeout and again we escaped.

A 2-run single by Cooper gave us a 9-7 lead in the 14th but another IU error helped load the bases for AZ with no outs in the bottom of the 14th.  This was our 4th error of the game and led to AZ scoring 3 runs and pulling out a 10-9 win.  Heartbreaking loss for the women.

Heartbreaking loss for sure, but they’re showing they can compete with the best teams in the country.

They had the lead in almost every top half of the inning. Arizona is a really good program for years had one of the best coaches in the game and produced a lot of olympic players.
