Copeland wasn't sharp Wednesday against Notre Dame and she struggled right from the start tonight.  First 3 Nebraska batters get hits to load the bases and a passed ball scored 1 run then a double scored 2 more and Nebraska off to an early 3-0 lead before we even bat.

In the bottom of the first we loaded the bases with nobody out and a walk to Sarah Stone scored our first run.  Copeland drew a walk and it's a 3-2 Nebraska lead but Kettleman hit into a double play to end the inning and we left 3 on base and squandered a huge opportunity.    3-2 Nebraska after the 1st inning.

Copeland gave up a double in the 2nd followed by an RBI single and then another single for a 4-2 Nebraska lead.   Then a 2-run double made it 6-2.  Nebraska already with 9 hits and Johnson relieved Copeland.  Johnson gave up a double to the first batter she faced and it scored another Nebraska run to make it 7-2.   And it goes from worse to worser.  Weather prompting at least a 30-minute delay before we bat in the 2nd.

Glad I didn't stick around.  Second game in a row we get manhandled.  Tonight a 12-2 beatdown in a game ending after 5 innings due to the 8-run rule.  We only managed 2 hits while Nebraska pounded out 15 off Copeland and Johnson.  Our 23-game winning streak seems like ancient history after getting pummeled back-to-back by Notre Dame and Nebraska.

Hoosiers go down 8-6 in the first game of today's doubleheader.  Now lost 3 in a row and 5 out of our last 6.  Montgomery pitched the entire game and gave up 11 hits.  Nebraska scored 4 in the first and 4 more in the fifth.  We had 7 hits with 3 being HRs that accounted for 5 of our runs.  Kern 2-run HR (18th), Minnick 2-run HR and Copeland a solo shot.

Nebraska sweeps the series with a 4-2 win.  Montgomery and Copeland allowed 9 hits; 4 were extra bases.  Hoosiers only managed 5 his and we committed 3 errors.  Team is really in a funk.  What was once looking so promising is now in the  toilet.

No games until next weekend when the team is on the road at Ruger.

After 3 innings Hoosiers lead 6-2.

We picked up a run in our first on a Stone 2-RBI single.  We added 4 more in the second starting off with Kern getting HBP with the bases loaded.  Minnick followed with a 2-RBI single and then a sac fly by Smith.

Copeland had a rough first inning giving up a leadoff single followed by consecutive walks to load the bases with no outs but we escaped with just 1 run scored.   Struggled again in the 3rd with a leadoff single then 2 wild pitches and a sac fly scored Rutger's second run.  Another single but a double play ended the inning.

Women made it 2 in a row with a 9-0 win today over Ruger in a game shortened to 5 innings due to the 8-run rule.  Johnson pitched a 3-hit shutout and didn't walk a batter.  We had 10 hits with Minnick and Stone 2 apiece.  Stone with 3 RBI with a bases loaded triple in the 1st inning.  We go for the series sweep tomorrow at noon.

After 3, Hoosiers trail 4-3.

Hoosiers scored 2 in the 1st on a Kern solo HR and a Copeland RBI double.  We added a run in the 3rd on a Stone sac fly.  Montgomery on the mound but ran into trouble in the 3rd and Rutgers tied it up with a BB, 3 singles and a HBP.  Johnson took the mound and a sac fly made it 4-3.  Hoosiers with just 3 hits thus far.

5-4 final score and we've started a new winning streak with a sweep of Rutgers.  We picked up a run in the 5th and another in the 6th.  Johnson pitched no-hit ball after taking over the mound in the 3rd.  Copeland took the mound with 2 outs in the 7th and no runners on base -- no idea why -- and got a ground out to end the game.  Bassett and Copeland each 2 hits on the day and Kern and Stone each with 2-RBI.

With today's win we're 34-15 on the season and 12-5 in conference.  Next up is a weekend trip to Ann Arbor for a 3-game series with Michigan.

We need next weekend, MSU, and maybe a few games in the conference tournament.
