In our first game of the day, Wisconsin pounded us for a 12-1 win getting 15 hits off 5 IU pitchers, 8 of the hits being of the extra base variety.  On the other hand, we could only muster 3 hits off Wisky pitching. 

In today's second game we're taking out our first game frustration on Purdue Fort Wayne leading 10-1 in the bottom of the 3rd.

With Mother Nature having ruined the original weekend schedule, we finished up with a Monday game against IUPUI which we won 10-2.  Copeland and Montgomery shared the mound duties.  IUPUI pitchers gave up 8 hits and 7 walks.  Mitchell had 3 RBI.  Bassett, Kern & Stone each had 2.  On the year our record is now 9-9.

This weekend we're in Nashville, TN for the Lipscomb Invitational.  We'll face Evansville and Lipscomb on Friday.  Evansville and Lipscomb again on Saturday and Akron on Sunday.

After 4 complete Hoosiers leading Evansville 4-2.  We had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 4th with nobody out.  Bassett forced at home on a fielders choice.  An Evansville error on another fielders choice brought in 1 run leaving the bases still loaded with 1 out.  Another force out at home followed by a Parker strikeout and we only get 1 run for our effort.  Bah!

Copeland started and still on the mound to open the 5th.

Hoosiers picked up another run in the 5th and get a 5-2 win.  Copeland pitched a complete game allowing just 3 hits and 2 BB.  Hoosiers also with just 3 hits but were aided by 5 Evansville errors.  

Next game vs Lipscomb scheduled to start at 6:30 and will be televised on ESPN+.

We kept our hot bats in today's opening game vs. Evansville with a 13-hit barrage winning 13-1.  We were led by a pair of 3-run HR from Stone and Kern. We had a total of 5 different players with 2 hits.  Johnson pitched 4 innings; Kleiman closed it out in the 5th in the mercy-rule shortened game.  Our record on the year is now 12-9.

We play Lipscomb later today at 6:30 with game televised on ESPN+

In Saturday's late game vs Lipscomb we won 10-0 getting 10 hits and 7 BB off Lipscomb pitching.  Copeland went 3-4 on the day and Parker had 3 RBI.  Copeland pitched 6 shutout innings allowing 4 hits and 1 BB while striking out 8.  Johnson pitched the 7th preserving the shutout.

This afternoon Hoosiers took on Akron winning 5-0 and moved our record to 14-9.  Bassett 2-3 and Kern with 2 RBI.  Copeland started and again pitched 6 shutout innings allowing 4 hits, 3 BB and striking out 7.  Johnson again came on in the 7th; loaded the bases with 2 outs but got the 3rd out to preserve the shutout win.  After today's win, our winning streak is at 7.

On Monday, we'll be in Bowling Green, KY to play Western Kentucky and on Tuesday in Nashville, TN to play Belmont.  We'll stay in Nashville to play a pair of games next weekend against Northwestern State and Memphis.

Upped our winning streak to 8 with a 10-6 win over Belmont.  Copeland, Montgomery and Johnson handled the pitching with Copeland getting the win and now 7-0 on the season.  We had 13 hits in the game Parker 3-4, Bassett 3-5 and Minnick and Copeland each with 2 hits.  Parker had 2 HR on the day and 4 RBI.  Copeland and Minnick each 2 RBI.

LAST TIME OUT

The Hoosiers went 6-0 on the road trip to Nashville weekend going 5-0 at the Lady Bison Classic, winning the series against Evansville and Lipscomb and defeated Akron with a 5-0 shutout win.  IU defeated Belmont on Tuesday, 10-6, to go 6-0 on the trip.

Freshman Taryn Kern had nine hits with a .643 batting avg., eight runs, two doubles, three walks, three home runs and 12 RBI with a 1.429 slugging percentage at the Lady Bison Classic.

Indiana defeated Belmont, 10-6, to extend their winning streak to eight.


SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Northwestern State (12-10) went 1-3 on the weekend dropping the series against Liberty University 2-1. On Tuesday, the Demons traveled to Louisiana Tech where they lost 5-0 in Ruston, La.

Junior first baseman Kat Marshall hold a .344 batting average to lead the Demons' offense with 21 hits, four runs, four doubles, one home run and 11 RBI on the season. The Brenham, Texas, native has also earned 10 free passes this season at the plate.  

Senior Bronte Rhoden leads Northwestern State on the mound with a 2.52 ERA with a 1-1 record on the season with only 25 innings pitched. Junior Kenzie Seely is 3-1 on the season with 38 innings pitched boasting a 2.58 ERA for the Demons.

Memphis (13-6) hosted Indiana State, North Alabama and Pitt for their Tiger Classic tournament where they went 1-3 on the weekend. They picked up a 10-9 win against the Sycamores before the second game in the series was canceled. North Alabama defeated the Tigers 6-1 in the first and run-ruled them 11-3 to take the series.

The Tigers fell 14-0 in five as Pitt clinched the victory with the run-rule.

Junior RHP Hallie Siems leads Memphis on the mound with three wins on the season and a 5.63 ERA with 82 innings pitched.

Sixth year utility player Kendall Lee leads the Tigers' offense with a .327 batting average on 18 hits. She has hit five doubles, two home runs, with nine RBI, scoring a team high eight runs on the season.

Winning streak at 9 after a 4-2 win over Northwestern State.  Kern officially just 1-1 on the day but her one hit was a big one -- a 3 run HR in the 4th.  She also reached base 3 additional times, 2 BB and 1 HBP.  Minnick, Parker and Benson each with 2 hits as the women banged out 9 hits off a pair of NWS pitchers.  Copeland started and pitched 4.2 innings and Johnson took care of the remainder of the game.  Each allowed 3 hits and 1 run.

Winning streak at 10 after a 16-2 pounding of Memphis last evening.  We had 16 hits led by Bassett and Kern with 3 apiece and 4 players with 2 each.  Kern with 4 RBIs.  Johnson started on the mound and pitched 3 innings; Kleiman pitched 2 with the game ending early due to mercy rule or whatever you want to call it.  They combined to allow just 5 hits and 1 BB.

An even dozen in a row for the women with a 6-1 win over Memphis.  8 hits in the game.  Minnick 2-4 and 2 RBI.  Montgomery pitched a complete game allowing 5 hits, 0 BB and struck out 7.  

Women are off until next Friday when B1G season opens and we host Maryland.  Been playing really well.  Hopefully it continues into conference play.

B1G season opens Saturday with our Hoosiers (19-9) hosting #22 Maryland (22-5).  Originally the teams were to play a single game on Friday but that has changed.  There will now be a doubleheader on Saturday with the first game at noon and the second game slated for a 3:00 start.  Sunday's game will be a noon start.

Saturday's noon game will be televised on BTN.  The other 2 games televised on BTN+

LAST TIME OUT

Indiana extended their winning streak to 12 games with a 4-0 weekend at the Memphis tournament.

The Hoosiers swept the two-game series against Northwestern State and Memphis last weekend at the Tigers Softball Complex.

Brianna Copeland improved to 9-0 from inside the circle, picking up three wins. Offensively, she totaled five hits, two runs, two doubles, one home run and five RBI.


SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

No. 22 ranked Maryland (22-5) is at the top of the leaderboard in the Big Ten as we begin conference play.

The Terps hosted the Capital City Classic where they went 3-1 on the weekend picking up wins against North Dakota, Bucknell while splitting the series against Texas Tech.

Jaeda McFarland leads the Terps offense with a .400 batting avg. with 34 hits, eight doubles, two triples, three home runs and 21 RBI on the season. She has also totaled 10 stolen bases on 14 attempts this season.

Trinity Schlotterbeck has started 12 games in the circle holding a 10-2 record. She boasts an ERA of 1.85 and has totaled 64.1 innings pitched.

Keira Bucher is 1-0 with nine saves from the mound. The freshman pitcher holds an ERA of 1.27 and 15 strikeouts.

The Terps are hitting .296 with 152 runs scored, 206 hits with 133 RBI.
