Allows the Dodgers to circumvent the competitive balance tax implications. I assume it allows Ohtani to circumvent California state income tax. Gives the richest team in baseball the opportunity to acquire probably 2 frontline starters. Apparently it was his idea. I really, really want to see this go badly for the Dodgers. Yeah this needs to stop Quote
Banksyrules Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 I'm a Mets fan and definitely benefits us but to me it's horrible for the game of baseball. Quote

I think they should change it to where in total you can defer the average salary of the life of the contract and then defer however much they want each year but this is just dumb. Or force the team to pay them that amount up front so they can’t just make a stupid decision and say it’s the futures problem. cbp4iu 1 Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Watch MLB change the deferment rule….basically allowing only the Ohtani contract to do it and screwing other teams over. Hardwood83 1 Quote

Dodgers have had payroll of $300M lately and hadn’t won a World Series with the exception of the shortened Covid season. The Rangers and Diamondbacks played in this past World Series. Might we wait out the off-season and have some games actually played before we change how the game is operated? Rangers payroll was top ten. Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 FWIW, last year the Padres were going to offer Aaron Judge a 14 year deal that would have paid him until he was 44. MLB was set to void that saying it was working around the salary cap. So how is Ohtani’s deal different? thebigweave 1 Quote

Alford Bailey Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Those dollars become worth significantly less over time. Wonder if that is factored in to these deferred contracts? Hardwood83 1 Quote

LamarCheeks Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Adrian Beltre, Joe Mauer and Todd Helton into the Hall of Fame. To me, Beltre's a slam dunk. Not so sure about the others. They were very good -- but HOF worthy? Well, the voters said so. Nobody asked me! Quote

Being Peyton Manning's buddy (Helton) just doesn't help you get in the Football HOF, it works for baseball too. Quote
