This guy sounds spiteful. I agree that IU probably should've taken a TO there but, man, I just can't get past the tone.

For sure.  It’s been awhile but this is now back in some parts of the media:IMG_0009.thumb.jpeg.9358d80a7f17b4c6c7b47ee56f391b44.jpeg

What a boring story.  Coach makes clock mgmt error that could have hurt us.  Happens all the time.  Whoopee.

Also our non-con is not some crime against humanity.  We’re gonna end up with some mid pack SOS.

You know ball. Throwing mechanics are so bad, and the feet are what really piss me off. Last year, Whitmer was able to clean up some small inconsistencies with footwork for Mendoza. Tino has not done the same for Hoover. Constantly throwing off back foot and the ball sails. Which sucks because Hoover has a strong arm and he is losing the leverage advantage. I have been less than impressed with Sunseri this season.

Yah the feet thing is probably the most aggravating thing. Hoover has better arm talent than Wilson. That deep ball to Becker watch Wilson's feet and compare it to basically any film of Hoover. Its discouraging

but its better to beat a dog crap XII or ACC team than ODU last year or North Texas team this year cuz we've heard of Colorado or BC before.

In regards to the TO thing for Minnesota's kick: I understand and agree with Cig holding 2 TO's in hopes they miss and IU gets ball at 50 yd line with chance to get in position to win with a FG. I don't know why he's getting killed for that honestly. The odds a college K is going to make a 60 yd FG is pretty low and last night was certainly an anomaly. I actually think his thought process was correct.

All of the following can be true:

1.  Some of the questioning of Cig is over the top and 99% of what he does has been amazing and he has installed belief in this program in way no one ever has and just wins like he says.

2. There is 1% of Cig that is not great and that is his timeout usage during games and has been a three year issue we have gladly overlooked. However, last night it finally had a light shined on that and almost cost them. When you are facing a future NFL kicker who is the best you have seen since Dominic Zvada for Michigan in 2024 who is now kicking for Giants, you don't ever assume he is going to miss and you call timeout immediately. Finally, you can't assume officials will ever stop the clock and have to watch scoreboard to double check the moment IU lines up.

Bottom line is we couldn't be luckier to have Cig and 99% of what he does is gold. However, its also OK to say that the 1% with timeout usage is an issue and he mis-evaluated his QB this season by bringing Hoover in. Healthy or not, he was wrong choice and current shoulder/wrist issue has only made it worse. Don't know yet if Wilson is answer but looked fine in second half. Just not sure once game planned for if he will be good.

Team is championship good except at kicker, punter, and QB and unfortunately those are three important positions. I am open to trying Wilson and McAteer full time (note Hoosiers have no other punter listed on roster) but can't say if they will be better in extended time.

Radidic situation is just unfortunate and Cig did nothing wrong here whether he is injured or has yips and was reliable till this season. The evaluation though at QB and punter were missed this offseason and hopefully something Cig has learned from as first evaluation misses of his three year tenure which is an amazing track record.

How can you understand holding onto the 2 timeouts when he didn't use one and we just happened to have 2 seconds left. He held onto those timeouts for no reason. And if he didn't know the clock was running thats also on him If he had used one, sure. We nearly ran out of time cause he didn't use either.

Just hire a coach for game management. Other coaches do it.

Again holding onto them was running on the idea of getting ball at 50. He didn't use the one because he was told the ball was out of bounds by a ref. At least that's what he said in post game presser. Again had things gone as statistics would suggest IU would've had the ball at the 50 with 20 seconds and 2 TO's to get into FG territory.

You can see the refs telling the clock operator to run the clock. He should have known the clock was running the second the ref signaled it. He didn't.

Small detail, but we would have got the ball at our own 42. In college, the ball is placed at previous line of scrimmage. Pros put it at the spot of the kick. But not arguing against your logic for saving  the timeout.

If he had called TO immediately, Minnesota probably punts the ball. Miss that kick and IU has a little less than a minute with a TO to go 25-30 yards to get in FG range.

Did not know that difference. Guess I've never paid that close of attention. Thanks

I'm not against this logic either. My point is more that a) it was his decision to make and he was going to take the heat b) he thought this gave us the best outcome despite it not working that way. Let's say they did miss it and IU gets the ball down to win game with a 36 yd FG, partly because he had 2 TO's to use. The narrative changes drastically doesn't it?

That is just ridiculous.  They kick and make you get the ball back.  They miss, you get the ball back with a short field.  They go for it on fourth, miss and you get the ball back.  Make and you play it out.  All indications are to call time out there.  You need time to score.

Again KNOW who the kicker is. Normally yes. However, you have to understand when facing best kicker in the country and a guy headed for NFL with a leg for nearly 60 yards you don't take chance he will miss it and use timeout immediately.

Its important to scout the kicker and play accordingly. Any other team letting clock run run is defensible. Against Luke Drzewiecki you have to do it differently just like against Zavata for Michigan in 2024 who was last kicker you faced who is that good. When facing a generational kicker you don't leave that to chance when guy already made 50 yarder.

If Cig thought his range was 58 which he said, that tells you are dealing with a generational guy and you don't leave extra two yards to chance. As I said Cig is great 99% of time but his timeout management during games is the 1% he struggles and this was worst of it.

It can be true Cig is amazing 99% of time and also mention he has a small 1% issue with timeout usage that bubbled over yesterday. This isn't a new thing.

Cig said he was aware about their kicker. FYI. Yes it was a mistake not calling TO after the Becker reception when they thought he was out of bounds.

These are Cig's decisions to make. People are free not to like it. But there's sound logic to them and he is working with more information than fans are. Typically it works out pretty well since he's been here. Amazed this needs to be said.

If he is aware kicker can kick out to 58 but doesn't think he can make from 60 that's really naive.

Its ok to say Cig is 99% great and 1% makes mistakes with timeout usage (and this is tenure long problem that didn't matter until yesterday) without defending bad decisions like this.

Even if he misses, you need time to go down and win the game.  TO is automatic in that situation. He screwed up.  That’s why Paddy is his man.

No sound logic at all. He messed up.  It’s ok to admit it.

Never going to happen. For better or worse, I think better, Cignetti is in control of everything that touches the program. He even said without a hint of regret that the staff wanted to go for it on fourth down rather than attempt a field goal, and he over ruled them. He is not letting anyone else make game management decisions.
