My hottest of takes is until students actually show up and make Assembly Hall a tough place to play, I'm okay with playing a game or two in Indy where alums who rarely get accessible tickets in Assembly Hall can see us play. Of course tickets have been a little cheaper on the secondary market lately, but students aren't even filling the lower level, let alone having a COMPLETELY empty balcony....

I don't expect anyone here to agree with this - I'm just a young alum in Indy who is frustrated by lack of turnout when it's hard for someone like me to get in the building

The general sale for Indiana vs. Syracuse tickets in Indianapolis starts today at 10 a.m. ET.

I took a look: About $100 or more for the lower AND middle tiers at Gainbridge.  To watch IU play a not very good team Torvik has at preseason #59.

I’m sorry, but that’s a bad value and I’d guess the place will be half empty.   The nosebleeds are also a bit steep at about $40.

I really think IU could price these Indy games better and get more people in the door and maintain the total revenue amount.  That would be good for the atmosphere and getting IU fans back engaged with MBB after two tourney appearances in ten years.

Yeah I’ll be looking to pick up a 4-pack for the family for cheap the week before. Got a feeling it won’t be too hard seeing those face value numbers.

This might be fun. A lot of interesting questions for both teams.

Was just coming here to check to see if anyone posted this or had much to say.  I think it will be a great measuring stick at the beginning of the year.

This is pretty wild. IUFB-OSU is on Saturday and right now tix on SeatGeek start at a little over $400. IUBB-UNC on Sunday. If you can do both of them for basically $500 that’s a pretty compelling weekend opportunity right there.

Just sharing for general interest

I got an email that I am finally off the IUBB waitlist. Of course I am sadly not local anymore so it doesn't make much sense for me.

There was limited availability, for the full season, in the upper balcony, cost is $784. Seat selection sent out in late July or early August.

They've been begging me to buy IUBB tickets for a couple weeks now, multiple phone calls and emails. Never thought I'd see the day tbh. Hard to say no, but just not the right time for me to make that plunge.

I thought it was interesting that it seems like they're having a hard time selling them out, but not super surprising. Hopefully football season tix sold like hotcakes.

In an ideal world I'd consider getting them and making the trip a couple times a season if I could sell the rest of the tix, but I don't think I'd be able to get rid of them even for cheap. At least not this year.

Off topic for the thread, but I will always be mind blown how Cig instantly made IUFB a legitimate program. IU athletics would be in a world of pain if we didn't have him. And I'm very glad we are supporting his program like a real "football school" should.

Football season sold out via season tickets so definitely sold like hotcakes!

I got that email too. If I got them, it’d be more of a long-term investment rather than wanting them for the upcoming season. The early season games are against crappy schools, and then many of the other games are on weekdays, so I’d rather just pay to get good seats for a few games than get season tickets and sit way up in the balcony. I just can’t make a $1,500 bet on IUBB having a good season next year.

Students will show up when we don’t suck anymore. It’s not their obligation to support a mediocre team year after year, sitting in awful balcony seats to do so.

Then why are we begging to play at home if the students don't want to come because we suck?

I don't feel bad for them when they can literally walk to the games. Maybe we wouldn't suck anymore if we actually had a home court advantage. I missed one game I had a ticket to in four years as a student. Completely inexcusable to have a completely empty balcony for Michigan State on a Sunday afternoon. That place was dead, and would've been totally winnable if we had a crowd show up.

Why don't we have a packed out stadium for every volleyball or field hockey game?

The students are not obligated to support any of the sports teams.

Football was terrible for decades and had no home crowds. They started winning and now the football culture is much bigger than tailgating then partying and skipping the game. The stadium is full because the program warrants that response.

Basketball was great for decades and built an amazing culture. But that culture has eroded over the past 30 or so years and most students have never seen an IUBB program that is for real.

So why would they bother going to basketball games if they don't go to volleyball or field hockey? And why should we as alumni find it "inexcusable" for students to not take time out of their weekend to sit in the balcony for a just so-so basketball team? IUBB has to earn back what it has lost. That's on the program, not the students.
