Wilkerson is going to drive me crazy.   37 of his 48 shot attempts being 3's and making them at the same basic % as teams did for the last 4 years isn't gonna' work.

Iirc, he started really slow in one of the Caribbean exhibition games. From there it’s been shot selection. He’s taken a couple of really deep 3’s. A couple stupid shots will throw off a small sample size.

Assuming the staff reigns in some of those ridiculous heat check type shots for non-exhibition/non-cupcake games and I’d say he probably gets to upper 30’s or low 40% from 3 on high volume which is about what you’d expect for a good high volume 3pt shooter in the B1G.

I’m more worried about defense and being able to score when the deep ball isn’t falling with this group.

The kid shot 45% on almost 8 attempts a game last year. You might want to give it a minute.

I promise he didn't shoot 45% taking the quality of shots he took the other night.  My eyes work and my opinion is based on what I saw.  We don't need bad shots anymore.  We've tried that.

At Sam Houston State where he was THE volume shooter on the team? He shot that % on some meh quality looks no doubt.

To show that I’m not all sunshine, for me Lamar appears to be an elite shooter that also has the highest potential to get lost on defense. i’m guessing that if it’s the end of the game and we need one stop on the defensive end, our five players are Conerway, Enright, and Alexis for sure, and two of Tucker, Bailey, and Sisley.

For those that got to see the game, how did our big Serbian big man look in his limited minutes?

As expected. Someone who needs a year, which is good because he came here knowing that. I’ll say I was impressed with his passing for a big man

He made a couple of truly next level passes. A good sign for sure.

Not a good sign? He needs to get into the nutrition program and weight room asap.

Finally, one more good sign? He moves fluidly, looked like he was having a great time out there - smiling and enthusiastic,  and had no trouble getting up and down the court.

I was kinda intrigued by what I saw.

Seems fair.  I don’t think he contributes much this year, but under the circumstances we lose Alexis or Bailey for any length of time, he’s going to play.

Funny how things like this can blow up when people either read them wrong or get defensive.

I don't like "heat check" shots.  Especially from a kid who isn't "hot."   Indiana won't win in the Big Ten or against good teams with anyone taking multiple quick, bad shots.  And by any objective measure....he did the other night.  He's taken 37 shots from behind the line while wearing an Indiana uniform and made 32% of them.  Roughly the same as Myles Rice a year ago.

That kind of % combined with bad shot selection will drive me crazy whether I give it a minute or not, and I would hope the same for anyone objective given the garbage we have watched in that building for the lion's share of the last 30 years.  I can see numbers and watched him chuck it with no conscience the other night.  "It was just an exhibition game....relax."  Yeah, okay.  If the two didn't corollate ..fine.  But they do.  I would assume that'll get reined in but if not?  It'll drive me crazy.

"Shoots it like Myles Rice" just might be the worst thing you can say about a basketball player!

Oh wait... "shoots it like Kanaan Carlyle." That's worse.

I really want to see Dorn.  He’s the one guy that feels like he could be a starter or starter quality.

I want to see Ristic too, i think he can contribute.

Jasai Miles hasn’t impressed me yet, but I think he has more to show.

Ya know who should be an immediate starter, especially with no true guards currently available on our bench?

This guy:

As the photo is captioned, he should be one of our "Five Guys." From day one.

Really Solid player.  Liam McNeely lite. If that shooting holds up.

You're driving yourself crazy focusing on early exhibition play and simply ignoring his demonstrated DI history of outstanding 3-point shooting on high volume. You have every right to drive yourself crazy, but doing so ignoring what the guy has done consistently as a shooter? No idea why, but have at it.

Agreee. Dorn would fit in really well at the 3 spot

Luke Goode was 12 of his first 37 threes last year.
