I remember Bobby Wilkerson at 6-6 or 6-7 jumping center instead of Kent Benson on the ‘76 team. Yeah, give me tall, athletic…big guards. :)) Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted June 18 Author Posted June 18 Kayser Hoops - Sammy Jackson is making his college announcement a week from today, he told @LeagueRDY. Jackson is down to these four schools: Indiana Texas VCU Saint Joseph’s. Jackson has taken visits to VCU, Indiana and St. Joe’s and plans to visit Texas this Sunday. mamasa 1 Quote

I’m probably alone in not really wanting this to start off the class. This would be a trust in the staff choice for me here. cybergates 1 Quote

This guy is 6'7" who has PG skills since he played that position until a growth spurt. Ranked in the top 100 in the 247 composite ranking and has multiple other P5 offers, including Auburn who has been quite good under Pearl. I'm not really sure what there is to be so skeptical about but you don't seem to like much of what this staff has done so I guess that makes sense. If it makes you feel better, I suspect that he'll end up at Texas so you won't have to worry about it. That staff has been recruiting him longer and he visits them right before announcing his decision. cybergates, WayneFleekHoosier and Hoosierfanyuh 3 Quote
Hoosierfanyuh Posted June 18 Posted June 18 The correct take ^^^ we are not going to become Duke over night. He’s a very quality guard mike vannice 1 Quote

I do like several of our players and love the energy and coaching acumen. He looks like a solid player but you don’t win big at P5 playing these guys as Freshman. If we are going to go freshman heavy with recruiting, we need to hit some instant impact guys. Simple as that to me. If you can keep a guy like him content on the bench for 2 years or whatever then that’s a winning strategy but good luck with that in the current era. That doesn’t make Sammy Jackson anything other than a great get; just means we need some ready for the big time dudes to go with him. WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted June 18 Posted June 18 We're too good for a top 75 wing from a really good program who plays in an even tougher conference? That depends. The amount of 75-100 rated freshman that make impactful differences on P5 teams is a small number. But we field 12-13 players so as long as you have 8-9 ready to go, it’s a nice building piece if you can keep pieces like Purdue has mostly done. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Demo Posted June 19 Posted June 19 I’m wrong plenty on this, but I always assume if the kid is doing the big public event and he’s got a local school on his list he’s staying home. St Joe’s is like 10 mins from Roman Catholic. Quote

St Joe’s is like 10 mins from Roman Catholic. I understand that it's the home school, but a recruit choosing St Joe's over IU would be a kick in the nuts. I'd still be surprised if it's not UT or IU. I think (with no evidence other than last visit right before the announcement and longer relationship with the staff/HC) that UT is the likely choice but IU is first in the picture and he does seem to be looking at himself in the IU uniform so.... rayl456 1 Quote

About 20 years ago, St. Joe's had a season where they didn't lose until March. That's the only reason I know they exist. Quote
Demo Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Interesting that 90 mins from his announcement there are still no crystal ball predictions entered. Kudos to his people for keeping their mouths shut. Quote
