Woodson: “well I I thought we did a good job there at the end putting the ball in the bucket once Wisconsin had their walk-ons in the game. If there would have been more time on the clock we could have had a real chance to get the lead”…

These teams want Woody back next season….they want to win but not by too much!

Awoke for Postgame….Fish still waiting on coach and making conversation with sidekick and others recapping game.  Now, advertising waiting for coach Woodson thoughts.  Long Advertisements.  Coach Woodson thoughts:  Fish starts by talking about start of game and coach repeats what Fish says….Fish talks and coach responds Ballo first bad game, didn’t compete like Purdue (Used all the NIL energy) got 5 games left AND WE GOT TO WIN ALL FIVE.

Got the 22 point lead down to 12. Had a chance to get it to 8 or 6 down. But, of course not. 2 consecutive turnovers on the next 2 possessions.

MM dribbling through the entire defense and gets the ball stolen. What was the likelihood of that happening?

IU basketball IQ is at an all time low.

Hope help is on the way for next year. However, HOPE is a 4 letter word.

Well he's earning the the cruelty he'll be subjected to the next game. It will be awful at AH.

Cruelty is a strong word.  It’s just fan displeasure when they see something they care about neglected.

Mike has not put 100% into this job, everyone can see that, and on top of that he’s been arrogant and deflected blame along the way.  Now that he has comprehensively failed at his job, the chickens have come home to roost.

My son and I talked after the game last night and here is some excerpts from our conversation:

  • Why does every team that we play look physically bigger and stronger than us?  We just do not look tough compared to others.
  • We are just not talented.  We have a team of "6th men" and low IQ players.  Not a good recipe and you can't teach at this point.
  • Our coaching staff relies on players to make things happen than coaching them into a game plan.  Again not a good recipe.
  • This team is lost, floundering, and done.  Don't expect anything out of them the rest of the season.  Everyone is ready to move on.
  • Senior night, I am really anxious to see how that will go.  Who will speak?  Who will they thank?  How will the crowd react?  I'm anticipating a funeral procession.
  • This is one of the saddest, most underperforming season in modern IU basketball.

The highlighted point is just plain not true.

We have

  • three five star players,
  • two players that were 1st team All Conference in a Power 5 conference last year,
  • four other players that were at least honorable mention All-Conference in a Power 5 conference, and
  • six seniors

on the roster.

I respect that, however:

  • Galloway (on and off the bench, and injury)
  • Leal (always a bench guy)
  • Carlyle (how was he all conference mention?)
  • Goode (6th man on Illinois and Indiana)
  • MM (low IQ)
  • Rice? (this is a mystery)
  • Ballo (needs a better supporting cast)
  • Tucker (5* could be a great player with right leadership)
  • Reneau (I'll give you this one)

  • Galloway (on and off the bench, and injury) He's playing over 26 mpg this season. Bench? That's when he couldn't play with terrible turnover numbers. In fact, his turnovers per minute have risen every single year under this staff.
  • Leal (always a bench guy) Probably our most consistently intelligent player. He didn't develop under Woodson? Yup
  • Carlyle (how was he all conference mention?) Last year he averaged over double the points, better % fg, ft, and 3pt, more rebounds, and fewer fouls.
  • Goode (6th man on Illinois and Indiana) 6th man on an Elite 8 team and a career 38% 3pt shooter? Yup.
  • MM (low IQ). Has not developed basketball IQ under this staff. Elite shooter that doesn't play hard.
  • Rice? (this is a mystery). Was utterly fantastic last year. Now he is broken. Elite quickness.
  • Ballo (needs a better supporting cast). An elite defender last year. Now a terrible defender that plays really hard.
  • Tucker (5* could be a great player with right leadership) Hyper talented.
  • Reneau (I'll give you this one) Massively digressing from last year.

In summary? An incredibly talented roster that has been run into a ditch.

Just asking for your opinion, is this current product a lack of leadership, tough conference, translation into a new a different system, etc?

My opinion is that this is a roster of proven, elite talent and largely good kids that need and want guidance, and instead have been coached and led directly into a ditch by this coaching staff.

I'm with Stuhoo here, couldn't disagree with you more. The media picked us to do very well because of the tremendous amount of talent that would be on the team.

You could make the argument that many of these players, who had played very well previously, are not actually good. However, Occam's Razor would say that the most likely explanation is that poor coaching is reducing the effectiveness of the talent. Seeing transfers succeed at other places only reinforces that notion.
