NIL isn't a contract, so no.

It kinda is in that you only get the NIL if you stay at the school. So if a multi-year money promise is given, it is divided up into the portion for each year.

True that the school could fail to pay, but that'd be the last time a legit recruit considered them thereafter.

true but starting next year we can also pay players directly in addition to NIL.

And the NIL amount could be divided among multiple years even if not a contract.

Outside of seeing that we have a BOATLOAD of NIL money....

I am not a fan of giving him 2.5 million. If we are swinging a big stick in that regard, yeah do it.

From what I have seen from Cignetti and staff... they can probably do A LOT with 2.5 million.

Wel it's my point.  People are acting like it's their money.  I don't get it

I haven't, but....

If we have some absurd amount of money in our collective... like-- bordering PSU type money, sure pay him. If not, I don't really see why we would.

If we had a really good QB, proven and we needed 2.5 to keep him... I'm much more inclined.

I don't value a 17yr old QB that takes up some huge percentage of our collective.

I would bet we can get 5 damn good football players at 500k a piece.

I'm afraid to go down this rabbit hole because I'm trying to focus on the present but my curiosity is taking over here.

Serious question, does anybody on here truly know how much players are being compensated?  Or are these values being thrown out of nowhere? I was triggered by the 500k is equal to 100k players being damn good players comment. Like is there a website that shows these numbers? I'm under the assumption coaches keep this info pretty tight lipped because I haven't heard a peep from coaches when they are asked about it. I do here coaches (cough cough, Brian Kelley) being upset because they were out bid by a school like IUFB. But I don't know of any coaches saying, "x player with y amount of experience and z amount of potential at fill in the blank position is valued at 100k."

The NFL is pretty solid at what the market values are and I'm wondering if that's the case for college players. I'm not saying college players are equivalent to NFL player values, I'm just saying the market value of said position is typically worth x amount of dollars when it comes to the NFL.

My personal belief is that the majority of these numbers are significantly overinflated and/or paid out in installments over a set amount of years. At least when it comes to what you hear collectives are willing to pay.

So if JuJu were to really get $2.5 million it's probably contingent on:

a) him enrolling at IU and staying at IU

b) paid out in installments until his eligibility is up

I don't think he's getting a lump sum up front and then expecting a new NIL deal the next year.

Now I certainly believe that some schools promise all this stuff and some players truly believe they are going to get money that's never been contractualized and that's a big reason for the portal growing year by year, but when I hear "X and X is making so much here" I typically take it with a grain of salt and would be surprised if they actually see half of the figure being thrown out.

TAMU had the #1 recruiting class two seasons ago and rumored to have spent $6-8mil alone on the freshman. More than half of that class has transferred out and many of those recruits have claimed they only saw a fraction of what was promised and in some instances no money at all.

That’s why this whole shebang needs to be regulated.

If players are going to be paid to play, they need to sign contracts that obligates them for X number of years.

There needs to be a “salary cap.”

I get it. Signing a contract removes the ability to enter the portal. Players are gonna have to give a little as the current conditions are skewed way too far in their favor

Rumors y'all. He's got a target on IUFB for other reasons than money. Although, I'm sure it helps make his decision. It really doesn't matter who wants how much etc. etc. in the grand scheme of things because IUFB has a seat at the big boy table now because of NIL. And the big boys effin hate it. If he comes to B-town he comes to B-town. If he stays with SC he stays with SC. If he ends up in Boulder he ends up in Boulder. Regardless, I have full faith in the coaching staff that they are preparing the current team to play a road game this weekend in Lansing. And I'm 100% positive Lewis is paying attention.

Yep, rumors.....I was the one that posted that my source (who does have ties to the Indiana football program that I consider useful) said that is what he was told about the $2.5 million tag.  Given some money that has been thrown out to some top recruits by the big boys, it's a number I could believe -- but doesn't mean it's true.  I do think he is shopping himself and not truly 100% committed to USC since he keeps visiting places.

I can’t imagine he’s going to USC. He doesn’t even know who their coach will be next year. They’re now 4-5 after losing to Washington tonight and Lincoln Riley’s job is on life support.

Now Colorado? Yes; that’s potentially very real.
