And alarmingly reminiscent of the previous coaching administration.

  1. I'm speculating about this.
  2. Carr would say "Darian; my buddy with proven credibility about Sokolov says..."
  3. There would be plenty of game tape to watch.
  4. It's the 12th/13th developmental spot that likely doesn't cost much more than a scholarship.

If true, it’s roster building malpractice. Hell, we have posters here that would watch 15 of his games to get a scout for fun.

Based on last season, he seems like a coach that takes on the challenge of coaching what he has.

He doesn’t strike me as an analytical, ultra high IQ type guy that obsesses over the roster and the roster build.  Not a type A personality.

many of his/staffs choices left so much to be desired and added a level of doubt to every choice they make for me.  This season is better by a landslide but leaves several significant question marks. Genuinely curious if this is 1 year rental/back up situation like Acinomivic was. Maybe practice against guys like Yigi and AS is better than playing low level German ball. Not sure this is a serious 4 year commitment or not.

I agree, but that doesn't mean that with everything at IU's disposal that we shouldn't be building every season with a NC in mind.

If you want to compete with the big dogs you have to think like the big dogs and not just settle for making the tourney and a second round scenario, that would be great for say, Butler..

We have to find a way to build a roster that won't get worn down by March and hopefully alleviate injuries etc..

I don't think we are far off base here either, but signing glorified walk-ons isn't going to cut it late in the season imo.

Signing a quality 4/5 combo that can give some quality minutes would go a long way.

Think the building we’re looking for is underway. Can’t really just gloss over that we landed the #3 Portal class, and #25 2026 recruiting class, and now have multiple years of eligibility across the floor and a stud 2027 point guard already committed. You know the saying- Rome wasn’t built in a day. You don’t go from bottom of the barrel to NC, but you can build towards it, and we have some pretty good building blocks in place — I like the foundation, but yes have to keep building on it

Michigan was built back up in a day after the Howard disaster.. ;)

Safe to assume that the Euro coach was interviewed, and that the Euro agent sent game footage. But that's a pretty quick scrub of a foreign player that likely had never heard of Indiana University until the week or two before he signed with us.

But...why did DeVries refuse to watch any of the tape?  Sounds like Woody, not DeVries.

That’s not really “speculation” though. Speculation is connecting dots from actual information. This is just inventing a narrative with zero evidence and presenting it like insight. If you admit you don’t know whether DeVries has even scouted or spoken to the kid, then claiming he’s only trusting “Carr’s friend” is basically making things up.

It's been established that the Euro coach that recommended Sokolov is a buddy of Carr's.

Knowing Carr has a relationship with the coach doesn’t magically validate the rest of the story you invented. You took one small fact and built an entire narrative around it with no evidence.  C'mon bro...

It's an opinion on a message board  that I clearly stated was speculative.  If speculation isn't for you on this one... no worries! It's Friday at 5:00 and life is lovely.

Apples and oranges. In any event the building is underway.

Yeah you could argue Michigan had been the B1G best program over the last 15 years even before May got there. Even Howard led that program to an elite 8.   There is no argument to be made that IU was even remotely close to being the best B1G program the last 15 years.  Much easier to turn around a program that was rolling that hit a little speed bump for 2 years then a program that’s last 10 years has been 1 big speed bump.

We had $20mil to spend on 12 players. It would be impossible to be outside the top 5.

Torvik or somebody’s entire roster rating is a better judge. And we’re doing well there. But not top 5.
