I want to get him but….from what is being posted (and who the hell knows if any of it is true) .it sounds like it’s between where he really wants to go and a bigger bag.  Guess that’s the smell of victory these days.

I see zero reason to believe that narrative which seems very driven by UK fans? He seemed pretty excited about IU when he posted the hype video and supposedly enjoyed his visit here.

I’ll be curious what his hype video from UK looks like because he looked bored. Also if I’m him and I’m getting equal money and I know there is a ton of minutes to be had at a power 4 school vs somewhere that I’ll just be another dude I know where I’m going. Just ask AJ Storr

Man I don’t get all the hate for this guy wanting to get paid. He pretty much has one year to lock in some serious earnings in his life so you have to take advantage. 
 

Besides, there is no reason a guy who wants to maximize his earnings can’t also work his a$$ off. Last year we had a bad culture that led to sub par attitudes and underperformance and that was on Woodson. This year it’s on Devries to make sure we’re getting guys who actually play hard all season.

IMO, money is probably the main motivator. If that’s not the sole deciding factor, I think it boils down to who sells him better on fit to put his best foot forward professionally. IU can probably say he will be one of our feature guys and get a lot of minutes. But it’s a first year coach at a new school and he doesn’t have a history of producing a ton of pros. Or, UK’s pitch: play less minutes but in a more clearly defined/focused role, probably on a winning team, and show what you can do in the exact role you’d play at the next level. If he were to choose to be one of the main guys at IU and the team struggles or he underperforms, that could hurt his stock. But it offers higher upside too. And a bigger payday. I think athletes of his caliber tend to bet on themselves.

See, I can absolutely see that. Pope’s a really likable guy with a great offense and an almost complete roster. He can just throw on cut ups of  Koby Brea and say, “Dude this is you.” And UK’s UK. No matter how much he might like IU and DDV there’s still a lot of faith required here. But, it’s a bunch of money and a bunch of minutes and a bunch of shots and that’s not nothin’. So I’m cautiously optimistic.

Right, can't blame the kids/athletes for cashing in when very, very few will earn much playing bball after college and they have the chance to make really good money while in college. How many of us would turn our backs, at 18-22 years old, on significant money that could take care of us for years, just to pick the school that fans think is better. To me IU is the better place for him, he can shine here and be part of what genuinely should be a really good rebuild with tons of IN excitement, but if he chooses to go to UK because the money is better (no idea on that) won't blame him.
