This roster could get thin in a hurry in the front court with a Ballo injury. Would be crazy with 1 year rentals not to put a big body at #13 with this roster. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners I would get a 4/5, a 2/3, and a poroject big that is a 4 and/or 5 — whether it be a young player or a grad transfer who can fill in if needed, either is fine. lillurk 1 Quote

Trish Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Congrats to the staff! This has been a surprising off season to say the least. Assuming there’s no major injuries, this team SHOULD make the Sweet 16. Anything less than that, is a disappointment and a failure IMO. I think they’ll keep an open scholarship and land one more big guy if possible. hoosierfan6157, J34 and 8bucks 3 Quote

They'll all get their minutes. Could be and that looks like a good lineup, but I doubt it. Think Woodson will start both Ballo and Malik, with Bako, then Rice and Gallo in the backcourt. Still lots of variables— if Newton is full go he’s a heck of a player. Bako should be primed for a strong soph year. I wish Woodson wouldn’t just run 2 bigs but I wouldn’t bet against it. Quote

Gallo thrives in a 6th man role and it's where he should be with the roster currently as constructed. thebigweave, bird4par and NVFalcons1990 3 Quote

moyemayhem Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Carlyle is a great get with plenty of upside. Hopefully his shooting improves, but I’m excited to see what he can do for us. Can someone explain why Carlyle is ranked above Rice by On3 (#10 vs #22) and 24/7 (#10 vs #18)? By every measure (stats, awards, team performance) Rice had a better year. I just don’t understand that ranking at all. https://www.on3.com/transfer-portal/industry/basketball/2024/ https://247sports.com/season/2024-basketball/transferportaltop/ Quote

I assume that means staff trying to look for ways to get him admitted since it's pretty damn hard for a player to play for a school that can't get admitted to, LOL. Anyway, Travis Branham had reported Wednesday the 'initial expectation was to see him follow May to Michigan but that is no longer the case'. The Mgoblog message board seems to indicate that admissions was a problem but that they also felt that Johnell signing with Roc Nation -- Jay Z's agency -- and while not precluding him from coming back to college, might indicate he is leaning at going into the draft or at the minimum looking for the best NIL he could get which likely isn't Michigan. Sounds like if they do not get Davis they are likely to get Roddy Gayle. WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote

This is the perfect role for Galloway which I'm sure he is fine with. At the end of the day, both are going to see plenty of playing time. Quote
HoosierFan1994 Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 What a wild year it has been for roster construction. Last summer, I thought IU would go young with Boogie, Liam, and Queen. Instead they got Rice, Carlyle, and Ballo. Credit to the staff for pulling this off. Last season I begged for another high impact player (mainly a shooting guard). While I understand the concerns about shooting (they are still there) this roster is in much better shape for a few reasons 1) You have a point guard that led his team to the NCAA tournament as a freshman. As highly touted as X was, he wasn't the point guard Rice currently is. Rice I think will only get better. I see him as a very good point guard for at least the next two years. 2) The bench is going to be so much better. Galloway can play the 1-3 spots, Tucker the 2-3. Cupps and Walker on paper were the top two options off the bench last year. Major upgrade. 3) Legit, athletic guards. I really hope Newton can come on too. Imagine Rice, Carlyle and him on the court at once. I'd like to see the staff add a shooter and a center. Problem is only 10-15 minutes a game are probably left. That might be hard to address right now. Guys like Hickman, Essegian, and Malone probably want a chance to start somewhere. Assembly Call talked about this on Thursday night. Expectations will be high. It's going to be best to wait until the season is over to talk about it, but the spotlight is on Woodson right now. Probably the most talented IU team since 2012-2013. I think this team HAS to contend for a Big Ten Title next year (not talking about 2022-2023 where they finished 3 games behind Purdue) and make the second weekend. This program just got a MASSIVE momentum boost. Let's not blow it. 94Bulldog, Silat Player, J34 and 2 others 5 Quote

Imo, the biggest key is don’t leave #13 open and get size there just in case something unforeseen happens to Ballo we must have options. Going to be tricky to finish things off. TJ PowerPayne/MaloneForeign player with size. Something like this. I think we are set on guards despite still not having a knock down guy. Gallo, Rice, Carlyle gonna play a bunch. Probably Cupps too, to an extent. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app Home Jersey 1 Quote
