I was pretty sure JHS would struggle in the pros and thought he might stay if there was a chance of him slipping to the 2nd round. But when he became a lock for the first round, there was no chance he was coming back. The money is guaranteed for multiple years and is way more than we can offer for NIL. JHS just had surgery for a degenerative disc. So that decision to get a guaranteed multi-year first round contract seems incredibly wise. Strongly suspect Ware will make the same decision. If JHS never plays another game he’s guaranteed $10+ mil. It becomes a little more interesting if you slip to the 2nd and get a non-guaranteed contract or a partially guaranteed one. If that had happened to JHS then this injury he could be on his own whereas at IU he would’ve probably gotten $500k per year in NIL (assuming he can still play). A 100k education and still has access to top notch surgeons and medical care. I’m assuming Ware is in the first scenario in which case it’s a no-brainer. Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Call me nuts, but Skyy Clark IMO is a guy you go after hard. I know about the issues of him moving from school to school but the ceiling is very high. He did have an IU offer in high school and ended his high school career at Montverde, so there are some connections. Alford Bailey 1 Quote

Ware, Reneau, and MgBako could take up close to $3.5 million of our $6 million NIL. Galloway, Leal, Cupps, and Newton is probably another million combined. That leaves 1.5 million to fill our remaining needs. Never say never, but Ware and his people have been intent on leaving for NBA ASAP. They would have done so after his freshman year if he received better draft feedback. One of the main reasons he chose IU is that the staff promised to make him a focal point of the team and do everything to get him into the draft this year. Quote

How do you know he was promised to be the focal point of the offense? It seemed to me that the focal point was generally MR at least early in the year. But wondering this is your perception or if you read that somewhere Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 24, 2024 Author Posted March 24, 2024 Skyy Clark and others like him that bounce around from program to program aren't appealing to me. IMO they have a far higher opinion of their game than what they can actually provide and if they don't get what they want, they move on. And again IMO that can't be good for the locker room. triple, thebigweave, kottke and 4 others 7 Quote

He's more appealing to me as a guy with two years left than a guy with four years left because he's not a guy who would likely stay anywhere for four years. But guys who bounce around right now are much more the norm. And, FWIW, ANYONE we get in the portal is someone that is looking to move on from their last team. And if the possibility exists that Woodson will be done after next year, exactly how many guys will be staying on anyway? 8bucks 1 Quote

There is a solid chance IU doesn’t make the NCAA for the next couple years….. kottke 1 Quote

If a few FAU players transfer to Michigan with May, the rebuild is accelerated. Quote

He was a Duke recruit that decommitted late who, as you said, literally fell into Woodson's lap. He's Woodson's kind of kid - good talent and zero effort to get. I mean it is kind of the same thing. A late short cycle recruiting effort very similar to a portal get Quote
