I'm curious what @Uspshoosier thinks about the Carlyle/Hickman/Conwell best fit and the Ballo/Payne option. He's the one above all others that has a handle on every corner of the sport.

With Rice already in the fold it comes down to who the staff best fits guard wise and how picky they want to be.   I personally would want Carlyle to commit.  He is exactly the type of guard you see on teams that are in the mix for making deep runs.   The more guards you have that can score on all 3 levels the better your team will be.  That leaves you need a threat that can hit from deep.  You then take whichever player of Conwell or Hickman want to be a Hoosier.  The portal is still adding players to it everyday so if neither of those 2 commit you go back in the portal and find a shooter but I would focus on getting Carlyle.   Ballo all day everyday over Payne.  Ballo is ranked the number 1 portal option by many services for a reason.  Back in the day Payne advantage over him would be he has multiple years left however in todays landscape you can’t count on that happening basically every staff needs to treat every player as a 1 year player. Staffs have to recruit their whole team over every year.   Miles having 3 years left is nice but you can only look at it as 1 year at a time

We won't. But him plus Rice would name a good starting 1-2.

Hell no. 

1. He's not interested - likely an Arky/Calipari move.
2. (And most importantly) He had terrible defensive/court awareness at UK.
3. In my opinion we have better options/fits that are leaning IU. Wagner is more like a fantasy football/gaudy five star rating addition than a winning basketball player.

I just remember him going down with an injury when Iowa played IU in Bloomington. That feels like another lifetime ago.

Really puzzled why we couldn’t get a visit from Conwell. Not buying that the backcourt budget was spent. He knew of our interest before his season was over. He could’ve shown interest and visited before Hickman. Also curious about Humrichous. Know he wants to work out for NBA but our roster could be full before that.

Short time lurker, first time poster.

With all of the guard focus in the portal, especially if we land both Carlyle and Hickman, is there any real chance that Mgbako sees a majority of his minutes at the 4? If not, the minutes at the guard spots will be incredibly limited with Rice/Carlyle/Hickman/Gallo.

I see it as if Conwell visits before Carlyle he’ll take his spot, but that’s just my guess. I think the Carlyle visit was strategically put where it was. Just a hunch

Of all the guards we are looking at, he was the last to go into the portal.  If you are getting solid talent that are leaning your way, I'm not sure you should back off of them to commit more time on someone you are starting more from scratch with.   There's not a need to risk multiple commits because you chose to focus on the bird in the bush.
