Transfer Portal w IU Interest

I´m kinda glad it´s fairly quiet right now. Seems like every player that went to portal yesterday was a 10-14 ppg, 2-4 reb, 2-4 assist guy at a small school.  The one from Wright State intrigues me today....19 ppg big guy

Small school transfers from smaller schools are always a crap shoot.  I would prefer to take from a mid major team.

It's nothing to do with preference. He isn't big enough or skilled enough to compensate that for long periods of time.

My preference is to be ultra skilled, which includes Enright in a 7th-9th role.

See here is where an argument can be made.  His best year right here was a 45% overall and 42% 3 point at Drake.  He went to Holtmann who is I believe a very crappy offensive mind and his stats went down….however his best year was 13.2 PER which isn’t the greatest.  I do wonder though what he would look like in a system for example with ….Conwell, DeVries, Goode and a Davidson which would open up the floor.  He has not had that and like many have said….you need players to accept roles and go out and play.  He won’t be scoring 10 plus points a game but he could average 10 apg with a team like that.  There was a good Davis tweet the other day showing that the 300 ranked player was a stud this year.  New system and it’s a coaches job to build a team.

That can't be a lineup, respectfully.. Goode, DeVries, Enright, Conwell, Davidson would be horrendous defensively and probably would struggle, at times, to create shots for themselves.

Goode nor Enright are starters on a T25 team.

They could be EXCELLENT bench pieces on one though.

Holtmann struggling offensively, or allegedly struggling isn't a selling point for Enright. It doesnt change he's 6ft 180lbs and not a plus athlete,m.

I think Enright compares favorably to a guy like Michael Lewis, someone who CSP is unfamiliar with or at least too young to recall his playing days. Nothing flashy or exciting about ML's game. But always got the job done and put his teammates in a position to succeed. Surround Enright with a great supporting cast and he's more than a competent player at this level. Could compare him to PJ Thompson as well at Purdue.

IMHO the right perspective on Enright is: there’s basically no chance to get a better backup PG.

He’ll probably play >20 minutes some nights. He’ll probably play 8 others. He might get some starts, though I really doubt he’s earmarked as the guy to start 30 games. It’ll be fine.

And that's where I'm at. If he's the worst player you add this portal season, you're in great shape. But he's a reliable piece whom I believe DeVries trust and will be on the floor more times than not. Cannot have 5 players on the floor at once whose mentality is to shoot the ball every time they touch it.

No I'm not.

And that's a great comparison. ML also was "successful" in college, a great career, but...the teams he was on weren't top level, at all.

2-4 in the tourney

Didn't finish higher than 19th

37-28 in B1G play.....

Everything we talk about here is pointless unless you have a few tips on raising a 16 month old girl.

Use your energy to foster her natural curiosity about her immediate environment, get lots of stroller walks in..also read, read, read to her..some of my greatest joy was quiet time reading to my daughter!

As a long-time teacher, it's obvious the kids who were read to vs those who weren't.. the former will do better, the latter will struggle...

Theres a difference between mid major and small school?

Low major.  There is a difference between taking from the historical mid major route than say Texas State.  However over the years that has changed.  Butler would still call a mid major as they don’t have the budget to compete with the power conferences.  Most Big East schools I would as well.  This has changed with the SMU, Houston and Cincy of the world joining bigger conferences.

But you ignore all the deficiencies.  Its not all about scoring and we all know that.  If you are building a team and the guy who plays the position to handle the ball the most isn't a good free throw shooter, that's a problem.  He also isn't a good 3 point shooter so the added element of spacing isn't added.  He also isn't explosive enough to beat his man to create more off ball advantages.  That's a problem.  Defensively? It's debatable.  He hasn't had to guard the level of guy he will face in the B1G or eventually the SEC.  He's scrappy and energetic.  Team guy.  All good stuff.  If he is in the 8 man rotation, I'm concerned.  If he is 10-13 I don't care.  The projectables just aren't there.  20 minutes a game is wild to me.

Level comp matters, yes. Fit more.

The guard transfer from ENST, Peterson.. is 85%+ in spot opps, for example... wasn't nearly as effective off the bounce.

If you could couple him with Enright for stretches, and while those two would be small, would play really well offensively together.

Ingest with a grain or ten of salt because admittedly I have not yet viewed any film of Enright, but Yogi was a phenomenal athlete which made up for his 6 foot frame.

Being a senior, I am sure that Enright will be fine and will know what he is getting into at the high major level.
