Teams are talking with agents weeks and months ahead of the portal opening.  Sometimes deals can be struck before the portal is open — then the player enters with a “do not contact” tag and they head to wherever.

At the least, a lot of recruiting work is done before the portal opens.

This week is basically over.  I have to think (hope) coaches meetings where held over spring break and player meetings Monday/Tuesday.  The fact that we don't have any significant announcements yet is probably a good sign, at least for some continuity.

This is what Chris Collins said about Windham on January 12th:

“We’re trying to help [Windham] fight through it and kind of find his way again,” said Collins. “We’re going to stick with him, we’re going to keep working with him, hopefully get his confidence back. He’s lost some confidence.”

Love it. I’d say at a minimum he finds a good consistent spot in the rotation next year and starts his jr and sr year.  We need those guys in our program.

Speaking of continuity I wouldn't mind seeing what Harris can do. Maybe Drake is a competent back-up PG? Seems a shame to literally waste a year on both of them. Also no guarantee we'l get anyone better. But Miles & Ristic can move on as far as I'm concerned.

IIRC a school's compliance department is required to enter a players name to the portal within 48 hours of them giving notice of their decision. And the portal opens later this year. Most of our potential transfers don't have much tape from this year. Maybe some guys who know they will transfer are waiting to announce while they figure out what their next destination will be.

This is totally unfair but last year was such a miss in terms of scouting I’d rather just start all over lol. Drake may be an ok back up but idk it’s hard to say without him playing at all. Harris and miles were on a terrible team the year before so the jump feels too big. Purdue has someone from the same team also who also can’t get off the bench

I was really hopeful about Harris when he signed, but in the Puerto Rico games he only played a few minutes in a couple of the games and was a healthy Coach's Decision -- Did Not Play in the other.  Spent the rest of the year out with an injury after that.  Injury wasn't ever specified but he was seen in a boot early on at least.

Drake I didn't ever hold out hope for.  I'm not sure even if he was healthy that he would have been getting any kind of significant minutes.

Seems to me you want to announce ASAP to get the most eyes on you.  But that is just me.
