I am saying that as things currently stand he is 100% gone.

But as you've stated, until he's gone he's not officially gone at the end of the season.

  • Could we lose to Winthrop and the next few after that and have an interim coach? Yup.
  • And if he won the national championship would he stay? Geez... I hope so! And if he wins a mother****ing national championship we'd be flat-out crazy to let him go and many would have to eat a big helping of crow.

Now what do you think the chances are that he wins the national championship or wins the 18 team B1G? Given the style of play, connectivity, and team focus the odds of winning the natty or 18 team B1G are incredibly slim. Therefore, the chances of him stepping aside early are much, much higher than of him achieving ultimate success and staying, but the overwhelmingly most likely outcome is that this year is it.

Thank you for the response. To me, this isn’t a fact. Also the extreme examples are both unlikely.

I fear that we somehow limp our way into the tourney and that is enough to be retained. I have been told that was his minimum requirement. And while I don’t think we will make the tourney, 64 teams do so it wouldn’t be out of the question and he could be back. It will be hard to fire him if we do, he doesn’t have to win a bigten nor National title to be retained - the bar is low

What you were told is not true.

Barely getting into the tourney means he is 100% gone. It is out of the question that he will return if that happens.

Well, a couple of years ago it meant getting a million dollar raise, so we don’t exactly have any reasons to be confident in the powers that be.

lol

But circumstances change. It is impossible to recruit without a long-ish term future at that school. See that extension or any real recruiting happening this year? Nope.

I have a feeling the raise might have been Dolson's way of pacifying Buckner, who could have easily been pushing for an extension after that electrifying 23-win season.

Anyone who has any doubts woodson is a dead man walking needs to get to a game! The fact is beyond wins and losses there is still a entertainment factor. Nobody is loving watching this team play ball!

Dude was out of coaching entirely for two seasons before we came calling. Just a laughably bad hire made worse by IU’s refusal to cut its losses and move on before the bottom completely falls out.
The worst hire yet. Archie at least had coached college.

January 17th the king gets 4 of the next 6 on the road. That will determine his fate imo. He has no good wins currently and will need rack up wins against ranked teams. I'm not sure even 11-9 gets him in. Schedule has been too weak.

I didn't like the Miller hire but I could see a possibility. With Woodson there really wasn't the possibility, this is what you get when you hire a person no one else wanted.

Really sad to see something I cared about so much to be destroyed! Everyone in a place of power overseeing basketball should fire themselves along with the king! I hate this so much! Sick of everyone I know asking why we suck and laughing at us! We suck because we have a lazy dumbass 4 a coach!

It’s not true.  I responded a couple days ago to one of his thousands of posts that claim that and got a snarky response, and he just keeps posting it.  Section 2.03 of Woodson’s contract expressly states that Woodson reports to the Director of Athletics.  The contract is public information and anyone can look it up, so it seems pretty ridiculous to keep posting otherwise.

That’s the first I heard of that.  I heard it from Brian Evans and several others who posted on here.  Now I didn’t have an other facts but was going by what others have posted and from what I heard from the Brian Evans on the Hysterics Podcast.  Also, I never got snarky, and if you think I did, I greatly apologize about that.  Now that I’ve seen this, I will quit posting it but I wasn’t the only one who posted it, maybe they were the one who got snarky.  We are all on the same side here, Hoosier fans who thinks we need a change.

Yep and the Woodson hire was just absurd on so many levels. Just like Ewing get hired at Georgetown. Doomed to fail from day one. They also claimed he was going to united the old and the new together. What a crock.

Two things can be true.  The contract can, and does, say that Woodson reports to the AD.  But we all know, Mike Woodson only reports to Mike Woodson.  Knowing Quinn and some big money boosters have his back, he probably doesn't respect the chain of command and reporting to Dolson.

I would be shocked to learn that any coach doesn't report to the AD. That seems wildly innacurate and "rabbit holish"

I definitely see why you would think that and honestly, I was scratching my head on it too but I heard it from many others on here and from Brian Evans on the HH podcast.  I greatly apologize for posting this if I am definitely inaccurate and based off what IUhoosierJoe posted, I am.  I will no longer state that any longer.

That I can possibly see.  From what I have heard on hear, not anywhere else, it’s been stated that he doesn’t seem to respect or support other IU athletic programs either.

We are out by the latest Bracketology on ESPN and 11-9 probably won’t get us on the bubble unless he can rack up a couple quality road wins.  I can see us not winning any on the road, because our coach has already admitted road wins in the B10 are hard to get and that translates to the players

Being out of Espns  bracketology is probably a good thing.  Lunardi doesn’t have his fast ball anymore and there are a bunch of better options to follow that would be more accurate.   I want him gone as bad as anybody however going 11-9 in the B1G would more than likely have them on the right side of the bubble.   B1G is by far the second best league this year and their success against every other conference besides the SEC will get more B1G teams in.   Iu has 18 B1G games left.  13 Q1, 3 Q2, and 2 Q3 games out of those 18.    If they win the 2 Q3 games then in the example of going 11-9 would mean 8 other B1G wins to get to 11 wins would be Mostly Q1 wins.    Again Woodson needs to go but the math will works itself out and if IU goes 11-9 in conference some of you would need to prepare for them being on the right side of the bubble.   Their SOS will only go up from here on out (108 overall now) and there non con sos will be in the mid 100s which would be fine for a bubble team or a lower seeded team.   Again not saying that’s what I want or agree with just giving you the view from a bracketologist point of view instead of a fan

This is inline with my fear. I still don’t think we will make the tourney but it’s not out of the question given our talent to pull off a 11-9.

people think it’s bad optics to fire a guy after 3 years and not give him a 4th, I think the optics for a prospective replacement are far worse to fire a coach that made the tournament.
