They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

One factor to think about is a prospective coach's experience with NIL players.  We talk about how much $$ we have for NIL, but the most talented ones want money, PT, and an opportunity to showcase themselves.  I'd argue that those players are quite different than the players Stevens had at Butler.  There has to be some question of either how well he can succeed with ego-driven mercenaries or can he build more in the traditional way at IU.  IDK, but I'm inclined to believe he'd be more successful going more the traditional route.

Brad Stevens remains my #1 choice BTW.

I think you would see more of the Matt Painter approach with Stevens with recruiting. I don’t see him hitting the portal to fill an entire roster (may have to year 1) but hitting the portal to fill a missing piece or 2.

Some investigative reporter in Indiana would probably generate some notoriety for themselves by digging into the Quinn Buckner era and writing an exposé. I’m sure there is plenty to cover and probably enough publicly available info to paint a very unpretty picture.

No.  Just don't.

I do not like personally attacking anyone.  This includes Woodson and Buckner and Knight.  Maybe point out bad decisions, but why toss old players under the bus?  Even if they are doing crappy jobs in our opinions, say that.  Otherwise, it really is petty and seeking some sort of retribution.

Oh well.  MHO.

You could argue those are quite different than the Butler kids, and I'd agree, not so much different than the NBA players he's working with now, though.

I heard for years few would never come here. What changed?

My opinion?  NIL, for one.  And #2, the contract Curt Cignetti got shows that we now have a president and AD extremely serious about athletics.  Coaches like Few and probably others might believe they can come here and put themselves on the Mount Rushmore of college basketball coaches.

Braden Smith, Jack Benter, and TKR wouldn't be Boilers, you say? Smh

Probably not Loyer, but he certainly wouldn't have been starting as a FR, maybe not last year.

It’s not personal.  Just some fact finding and investigating to get the whole picture.  IUBB is the team of a public university and it has a lot of fans.  People should know how it is being run.  Maybe nothing is found, but it’s worth a look.

Osterman Was just on 107.5.

Most of what he said was worthless, but at the very end, I think he seemed to make it very clear that Woody is not wanting to go quietly

What does that even mean?

There is now no way Woodson will be the coach next year, it's already public that he won't be.

Does it mean he wants to "make some noise" with the team by winning some games? In that case, what is he actually going to do differently than he was doing before? What he's been doing wasn't working. Is he going to start trying all of a sudden? In that case, he should be fired for not putting in the effort until he was being shown the door. I guess some of the last few games look winnable, just like last year. So maybe they could win some games and feel like they turned it around when it was actually just a favorable schedule.

I don't really care what Woodson does at this point. He won't be the coach after this year. I don't think he can fix his image/coaching legacy in the last few games. It's more likely it's just more embarrassment for himself.

So many big time contracts are legal scams.  This one for failure.  Besides all the facilities, support, NIL money…..$8,000,000 reward for failure…and it goes on.. These are the best kind of gigs for those individuals who can get one.

I think we need to take some time contemplating Cronin....midwestern guy.....don't see any downside to his record...just as good if not better than some of the "not-stevens" candidates that we are throwing around....AND, more importantly, hes not at the top of the list and will come out of nowhere...like we got hit with Woody out of nowhere and nobody was talking about him on THIS board.

Ok, with that being said, my list is as follows:

1) Stevens (fantasy)

2) May

3) Beard

4) Cronin

5) McCollum

6) Few
