They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Leaving in starters and watching them press and play defense against Wisconsin walk-ons to try and close the gap tells you everything about the sorry state of our program. We’ve made jokes about garbage time Leal, but I think last night was the first time I’ve noticed a clear, concerted effort to try and limit the negative optics in that fashion. I rewatched it and Gard emptied his bench at 1:17. Five of his players logged 1 minute played. It was clear in the huddle they looked around and said to each other “we have to close this gap and not lose by 15 again.”

This was not “playing to the final whistle”  this was different. This was desperation.

We scored 6 points in the last 70 seconds. And 5 of those in the last :22. We’ve had a lot of embarrassing moments over the Mike Woodson experience, but watching that was rock bottom for me as a fan.

Anyways, sorry for the rant, that just really irked me.

TL;DR: We suck. Fire Mike Woodson.

"I did my job, we just ran out of time". Probably.

The players are very obviously in their own heads and feeling the pressure of a frustrated fanbase and clueless coaching staff. I get no player wants to have their coach fired mid-season, embarrassing for them, probably would feel like they’re responsible for it … but that’s really what would be best for everyone at this point, probably. I’ll never understand for the life of me why we decided to bring him back for this year. This was inevitable the moment they retained him.

Agree. The only legitimate reason I’ve seen for not firing him now is putting pressure on coaches we would be looking at. But that’s just part of being a sought after coach. The downside to keeping him is much higher. If the game gets ugly Saturday and the fans start to chant Dusty’s name, it’s not the fan’s fault. It’s 100% on IU.

I think you mentioned it in the game thread, but this was another one where I really felt so bad for the players. Clear from the jump we didn’t formulate a gameplan to limit what Wisco does well, and you could see in their faces and they knew it. This game was over before it started.

What if BS told Scott last year,  need one more year to be able to get all the fam on board and everything else in line?

that is the only way that makes sense!

Does anyone else get this ad all the time on here and wish it was the king of Indiana  flying out of Bloomington?

You should’ve captured the shot of him tipping his crown to you! That would be more accurate!

He would've known his contract would be expiring this year. I could see wanting to minimize media questions but being front office he may not have as much media exposure.

An announcement that Woody will resign end of season would do wonders for the atmosphere at AH for the UM game and the rest of the home games.

I still doubt his ego will agree to it...

We are rapidly approaching the point of that no longer mattering IMO. Mike can find out he is retiring the same way we learned he was coming back last season for all I care (in an article from the Indy Star citing an unnamed source in the Athletic Department). The AD has an obligation to make sure Saturday doesn’t devolve into 1) a complete zoo 2) one of the programs most embarrassing moments in recent history. And that’s saying something, because there’s been a lot of those in the last 25 years.

He works?

I knew someone would catch that.....lol That's why I constructed the sentence with "for work" instead of walking in Assembly Hall to work. lol

That just insinuantes that he is doing work....lol

After the egg we laid in the Bahamas that'd be saying something.

I figured his "work" was calling Quinn to figure out how much bigger they can make the grift they have going.

Not a single one of these idiots minus Walsh and Hulls should be retained.  Think the rest don’t want or understand how to coach while those two are young.
