They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

I was so hopeful this weekend would bring us news we all want, but now I'm faced mediocrity has been saved once again.

I'm calling it now. A 3 game win streak started last night.

He won't go anywhere anytime soon.

Well it has been woodsons thing to win a few games when all is lost. Did you watch the game? I would still wait and see what happens at northwestern. Absolutely nothing happened last night that leads me to believe anything has changed performance wise. I think like leal said we need to chill

The way Indiana has been run the last 25 years, squeaking in the tournament as the very last team and losing by 40 would get him year 5 and maybe an extension.

IU has been so incompetently run it's hard for me to get hopes up they'll so the right thing at this point.

That's a completely fair assessment, I'm just hoping QB really is a lame duck at this point so Pam and Scott can do what's best for the program and get us a new HC.

Just enough to keep us in Mediocracy land. Scrape by against the bottom to middle half and get destroyed by the good teams.

Let's discuss the master class the staff is doing with bako shall we? The kid came in as a freshman and had a slow start i will admit but then became a pretty good scorer and player for us last season. He started this season as our best shooter. The point is in a year in a half the staff has taken our best player and virtually made him unplayable by mid season. In s year and a half nobody can get him to play respectable defense? How often does a star player just fade away to the bench in year 2?

I think some of that is on him.  Athletes with high motors and drive to excel typically don't respond like he is.  He seems very lazy with no real energy.  I watched him early on and he has no motor on defense and only stands in the corner waiting to shoot on offense.  Is that on the coaching staff, yes for leaving him in the game and not letting him know it is not acceptable.  Is it on him to get his mind ready to play yes.  So, I see both being the issue here.  Some kids will respond to coaching some wont.  Some kids don't need a coach to motivate them and some do.  In his case I think it is both.

I think the coaches have failed him. The good news is he has found the bench and will probably remain it appears so we got that going

Agreed the coaching has failed him.  They have awarded him for too long for poor performance.

People thinking last night changes anything with the fundamental problems with IU basketball or Mike Woodson as a coach are just giving a “visceral” response as the infamous Kathy likes to say. A data based assessment on a 4 year body of work makes it clear that he must go.

Of course. But it is a testament to social media and our own little bubble we live in that this thread had many of us convinced that if only IU dropped the next couple games Woody would be gone forever and tier-1 coaches would be fighting for the job.

I’m sure it was most likely always going to play out to the end. Dolson has all the data he needs to make a decision. And if it doesn’t happen…welp, that’s IU for ya.

(please tho…fire mike Woodson).

Two things are true:

I am happy that we won the game last night. I will always cheer for my team.

Mike Woodson is still a terrible coach and should be fired.

Sums up my thoughts as well.

The zone of pain.

That win last night probably significantly reduces whatever chance there was at a midseason change.  Woody has demonstrated he can still win games with this team, and while that's a depressingly low bar, it is enough to avoid getting replaced midseason.  This is not enough of a meltdown to replace him.  The next two games are not too hard either.

It's not fair to say going to northwestern and winning isn't hard. Let's wait and see

I personally don’t think they win at NW.  maybe this win bought him a weekend, but if IU gets buried at NW, it’ll be an interesting couple of days before MD

Then at Purdue and Wisky.  Two more tough ones after MD. Then Mich and Mich St.  Tough stretch.

I guess it really doesn’t matter either way if he’s 100% gone regardless, but you think it’s most likely gonna not be til the end of the season now or still could be a chance before season ends?
