So somebody is going to physically harm Woodson and/or somebody from the team and yet this fan base wonders year after year why we can't ever hire anybody worth a salt?

Yeah tone deaf.

And I'm out on Woodson by the way, so you don't need to ask 1000x over.

Like I would let you dox me

Did you attend IU? I’m just curious as to when your “fandom” began, as well as your experiences in support of the program. Wasn’t sure if that began before you arrived on campus or if you simply grew up as an IU fan and have supported them in that way. I think you gave me your answer buy I wasn’t asking in an effort to “dox” you. We’re just discussing the basketball program on an Internet forum, not solving the problems of the world, so no ill-intent exists.

I hear what you’re saying, Kathy, and I truly don’t want to come off as combative either. I just think it’s important to consider the fanbase in all of this too. Fans invest so much emotionally, financially, and in terms of time, and they deserve some sense of hope and direction for the future.

If Coach Woodson were to announce an early retirement, it could actually bring some relief—not just for fans, but for the players as well. It shifts the narrative away from the struggles of the season and toward rebuilding and optimism. I think it could ease the pressure on the players by creating an environment where they can play freely, knowing the expectations for the rest of the season are reset. For those considering their next steps, it’s an opportunity to focus on showcasing their abilities without the weight of the current situation hanging over them.

It’s not about disrespecting Coach Woodson, nor the players but about setting a new tone that benefits everyone involved—players, fans, and the program alike.

In case you missed it, the fans are the problem.

Neither of those interim solutions worked well for us. Look at the landscape of college and pro sports and provide examples of interim coaches, appointed after a coach was fired for performance, succeeded. Ed Orgeron was hired at USC after Pat Haden blew out Lane Kiffin, but his tenure there was short-lived. Temporary fixes are just that - it’s baling wire and duct tape.

Weren’t you making the argument that our play would be worse if Mike Woodson were relieved mid season a half dozen pages ago? Because you can’t have it both ways, either mid season is a bad idea for performance purposes or it’s not and an OSU Bball is a risk you run. It is not a “temporary fix” as stated, it is trying to salvage whatever dignity is left in this program.

Also, just for the record, Ed Orgeron was never hired at USC. He was named interim to finish 2013 after Kiffin got tarmac’d and did not get the full time job after the season and resigned from the staff as a result.

I can understand why so many people are infuriated by the current status of the program, but the implication from several posters is that violence could result if IU doesn’t terminate Woodson, and that’s disturbing on several levels, to say the least. Perhaps it’s just modern day fandom, but I’ve never associated it with our fans previously.

Okay, I am following along today and feel really old.  What is DOX.

PS I have been an IU fan since the 81 championship season.  I graduated from IU in 92.  Just in case you want to DOX me.

to publicly identify or publish private information about (someone) especially as a form of punishment or revenge.

Did you see what just happened to Caitlin Clarke?  There are a lot of nuts out there and it only takes one.  If this was Uk, Kansas, etc and their administration had treated its fans the way ours has been I guarantee you something would’ve happened by now.

Good point. It's a totally selective argument.  I mentioned Dabo above. Ryan Day was also interim as well in 2018. Some interims work out, many don't. But that would be expected, since most teams that fire a coach mid-season are operating at a talent deficiency.

The question is what's best for the long term trajectory of the program. I do think that emotions can run high after back-to-back losses like that. But the only compelling argument I've heard for maintaining the status quo is to avoid a Diebler scenario, which isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of the current staff.
