They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

So Woody wanted assurances he’d be coaching next year and didn’t hear what he wanted. “IU wanted to wait and asked him to do the same but he chose not to.” So IU was going to let him walk into the Michigan game without minimally saying he’s done at end of the season? Idk… Woodson’s camp leaked the contemplating retirement story to ESPN A) to save face before the statement was released by IU B) to blow up IU’s preference of announcing at end of season, possibly undermining our chances with candidates at other schools who will parlay this into an extension… he was “treated like family” so assume the leak didn’t come from the AD… though certainly could have … Hardest part for me to believe about that is probably the idea IU would let him coach vs. Michigan without some kind of announcement beforehand or it would’ve been brutal. How much advantage do other schools wanting to extend their coach really have anyway just because it’s officially been announced? IMO, not much of one, probably… thank goodness he and his drama are done soon.

He didn’t ask about it, he wanted an assurance of it.

That's not any better and doesn't change my point.

If anything it's worse, wanting assurances after this fiasco and last season's train wreck he'd have to be completely out of his mind.

The bottom line is even though some said he knew it was over weeks ago clearly he didn't. He really thought he might get another year it seems

He is clearly delusional!  He still thinks he done his job!

He wanted an immediate assurance that he would be the coach next season, and was told that any determination wouldn’t occur until the current season ended. He pushed back at a few levels and did not receive the commitment he wanted, and it evolved quickly from there. He was treated as fairly as anyone could expect to be.

I thought it was beyond my imagination to dream up a scenario that would be more damning for Mike Woodson than the full-on train wreck of a season we've had.

Then I saw this post.

If your version is true, that would be even more wrecked than the train wreck that has been visible to the public. And that's a high train wreck-bar to clear.

Thanks for sharing - any remaining respect I've had for the motivations of Woody quickly fade away to anger at him if I consider this as true.

If I am connecting the dots:

1)  Mike asks for the "assurances" of a 5th year.  Dolson says no fkg way, we'll review at the end of the season.  That was what we heard about a few weeks ago -- it was settled, just waiting on the right timing.

2)  Mike gets mad and quits.  Then changes his mind, realizing there is money on the table.  That's the fiasco we heard about last week.

3)  Dolson, in an effort to save Mike from himself, puts out the kinder and gentler "woody is a good guy" statement.

4)  Dolson contacts Brad and says "it's done" you want to talk.  :)

I am sure the administration were very professional but I am sure that wasn’t reciprocated.  Seems like he was still having that since of entitlement that he started with from day 1.  It is too bad that it ended like this!

Maybe, but they weren’t going to move on from him or even have that conversation until the year ended. He jumped started everything.
So the process was going to happen as normal but Woodson messed up the process by asking about year 5

He wanted an assurance about his status, and he thought he had the support to possibly get it. He didn’t. I realize you thought he was done before Maryland, but that was never happening and was never discussed.

Wow delusional to the core. He had support of two people. His buddies. I've just lost 7 of 8 and almost 8 of 8 but can I get another year

It truly is sad... but once again, his ego and arrogance got in the way... so, "see ya!"

We are talking about Mike Woodson, I actually think he has the ego and the cojones to do something like this and his delusional mind would actually carry it out!
