They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

He very likely wasn’t getting another year and his inquiry a couple of weeks ago, which sought assurances about his future, prompted what we’re seeing now. IU wanted to wait and asked him to do the same, but he chose not to.

What were his assurances?

The bottom line is even though some said he knew it was over weeks ago clearly he didn't. He really thought he might get another year it seems

This would be of no surprise. Arrogant Mike isn't coming to you.

Another story that Evans told was about Kirk Haston coming back to Assembly Hall for a game during Woodson's first year. He's only been to a couple games since he graduated and had his son with him. Dane Fife alerted Woodson that a distinguished alum was back for the first time in years and said it'd be nice if Woodson went over and greeted him before the game. He flatly refused. Total DB move.

Yeah, he was never getting another year. Illinois game was the end of it. He was cooked after that and that is 100% fact. That's when several big names who were on his side realized even they couldn't stop it at that point.

Yeah, this whole Mike Woodson loves IU thing is bs. This guy was basically never around the university/program from the time he left. Mike Woodson is about Mike Woodson plain and simple. Good riddance.
Other than coming back for bobby knight the one day did he ever come back for games? I am guessing nope never.

I can't answer that as fact. But knowing everything I've learned about him the last 4 years. The likely answer is no.

Kathy did the equivalent of a blow-by in the handshake line. If that was true how did at least 3 of us on here know on Wednesday that IU was going to push him into retirement?  If he loved IU why wouldn't he wait like IU asked him too? A lot of things don't add up.
What I always wanted to know was if he loves iu so much why couldn't he take the job for 2 million or less? I thought it was his dream job. Why did he need such a massive salary?

We both know that IU was making this announcement prior to the Michigan game no matter what. There was no asking to wait.

He wanted an immediate assurance that he would be the coach next season, and was told that any determination wouldn’t occur until the current season ended. He pushed back at a few levels and did not receive the commitment he wanted, and it evolved quickly from there. He was treated as fairly as anyone could expect to be.

Pure nonsense. And this didn’t start last Wednesday.

This started well before you found out last Wednesday what was going on, though it was never going to culminate in him not coaching against Maryland. That scenario never existed, as we knew at the time.

He definitely did or at least believed he had enough support to get that. He wanted it clarified a couple of weeks ago and did not get the response he wanted.
